BNL Round 4 (Second Stage): Mountaineers defeat Magic in the closest game of the week - Oct 1, 2018

There are only two more rounds left in the Second Stage in BNL. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 4 in the BNL took place in Johannesburg. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of much higher ranked Magic (2-2) to fourth ranked Mountaineers (1-3) 78-75 on Saturday evening. Mountaineers left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with NW Eagles. Magic at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Kwazulu Marlins and Mpumalanga R.. Mountaineers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Magic's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Johannesburg to the arena Panthers.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Johannesburg: Panthers (#1) and Magic (#2). Magic was defeated at home 52-61 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Panthers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Tshwane S. Magic at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Kwazulu Marlins and Mpumalanga R.. Panthers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Magic's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Johannesburg to the arena Panthers.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Potchefstroom. 3rd ranked host Eagles (1-3) were smashed by top-ranked Panthers (4-0) 87-37. Panthers have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Tshwane S. Loser Eagles keep the third place with three games lost. They share the position with W.C. Mountaineers. Panthers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Johannesburg Magic.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Limpopo. 4th ranked host Limpopo Pride (0-4) lost to second ranked Rhinos (2-2) 70-59. Rhinos maintains second position with 2-2 record having just two points less than leader E.C. Windbreakers, which they share with Kwazulu Marlins and Egoli Magic. Limpopo Pride at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Rhinos' next round opponent will be league's leader Suns in Tshwane and it will be for sure the game of the week. Limpopo Pride will play on the road against the league's leader Suns in Tshwane and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Tshwane. Top-ranked host Suns (4-0) smashed their biggest opponent Marlins (2-2) 75-46. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marlins. Suns have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record, which they share with Soweto P. Loser Marlins keep the second place with two games lost. Suns will face Rhinos (#3) in Mbombela in the next round, which may be the game of the day.

In the last game of round 4 Mpumalanga R. lost to undefeated Tshwane S. on the opponent's court 71-78.



NW Eagles - Soweto P. 37-87

Jozi Nuggets repeated as Johannesburg Basketball League title. They faced MBB Kegs for the trophy. Jozi Nuggets grabbed the lead early in the game and maintained it until the final buzzer winning it 70-61. Neo Mothiba (200-F/G-82) was named the Final MVP.
