Tshwane Suns - South African Champions and History Makers! - Dec 17, 2013

In the immortal words of the great Nelson Mandela, tweeted by Neo Mothiba (199-G/F-82) on December 10th 2013 It always seems impossible until it is done The Tshwane Suns Basketball Club stunned the basketball community and indeed the world, when in a dramatic turn of events, on Saturday December 14th 2013, they held the high flying Soweto Panthers to a mere 2 points in 12 minutes of active basketball, while at the same time scoring 32 points of their own, and offsetting a 20 points deficit in one quarter to eventually win the semi-final match by 10 points in what is said to be one of the biggest moments of BNL 2013.

As if to prove to the world that their earlier feat was not a fluke, they went ahead two days later, to annihilate the Mbombela Wildcats 79-68 in the final match of BNL 2013 in front of a capacity crowd, whose thunderous roar could be heard as far away as the racing tracks of the Turfontein Race Course.

Tshwane Suns made history by becoming the first team to be crowned the South African Basketball National League Champions.

But the journey to stardom was not all rosy, there were ups and downs. Suns started the League as underdogs even though the basketball fraternity had high expectations of them. I can remember very vividly when basketball critics and social commentators went on record and tweeted about the Tshwane Suns being "Over-rated"

I must admit myself that I saw Tshwane Suns winning the league as a mammoth task. Well, from a narrow 1 point win against Kimberley Diamonds, to obliterating the Egoli Magic 71-46, captain Neo Mothiba was right! The Tshwane Suns organization has taught us all that when you believe in your dreams, and work hard enough for it, you can achieve it.

From the ardent Sunsnation supporter, to the coaching staff, players and management, Tshwane Suns Basketball Club out-played everyone, and emerged the indisputable BNL 2013 Champions. A big round of applause to the team that never stopped dreaming.
