Somalia posted the initial win in Cairo at the Arab Basketball Championship. They overcame Mauritania 87:70 for a 1-1 record. Somalia won the opening period 20-12 and led 16 points at the halftime. Both teams exchanged the narrow wins int he second half for the final result.
Foad Sharifi top-scored for the winners with 25 points and Ahmed Jamal (1987) netted 18. Gaw Aleen replied with 17 points in a loss and Kan Ibrahim had 16.
