Alpha Bangura
Al Ahly Cairo (Superleague) strengthened their roster with addition of 34-year old American (has also Sierra Leonean passport) swingman Alpha Bangura (197-80, college: St.John's, agency: Interperformances). He played most recently at Al Sadd in Qatari D1 league. In 15 games he recorded very impressive stats: 20.6ppg, 5.9rpg, 2.5apg and 1.6spg last season. He helped them to make it to the final and cup semifinals. Great season indeed as he was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Qatar D1 Honorable Mention.
The previous (2013) summer Bangura was tested by Bucaros (Liga DirecTV) in Colombian league. In only one game he had also remarkable stats: 25 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in 2013 season.
Among other achievements he won Japanese JBL Superleague championship title in 2008. Bangura received also Asia-Basket.com All-21st Arab Clubs Championship 1st Team award back in 2008. He represented USA at the African Championships in Libya five years ago. His stats at that event were 7 games: 14.4ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.3apg, 1.3spg, FGP: 50.9%, 3PT: 21.4%, FT: 72.3%.
Bangura is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Dominican Rep., Israel, Kuwait, Lebanon (Al Riyadi, Sagesse and Anibal), Philippines (Air21 Express), Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela (Marinos and Bucaneros), Colombia (Manizales), Dominican Republic (Reales de La Vega) and D-League (Bakersfield Jam and Rio Grande Valley Vipers).
Bangura attended St.John's University until 2002 and it will be his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way:
A very athletic forward, with great leaping ability, who plays hard at the two sides of the court; can further improve and become a very good international level forward.
