Freetown The Sierra Leone Basketball Association (SLBA) will this week conclude its regional talent identification tour in the country.
The tour which started a week back saw the association's local expert, Alhaji Haroun Sesay together with four coaches making their first move to Bo in the Southern region and later to Kenema in the Eastern region. SLBA's final run will be in Freetown before heading for Makeni where the identification tour will be climaxed.
According to Sesay, the tour is part of the five years plan of the association as they want to develop the game of basketball in the country. He also noted that the aim is to spot boys around the ages of 10-13 that they will be able to develop to play the game with the hope of becoming the future stars of Sierra Leone.
'After identifying these boys we train them so that they can play the game,' Sesay said. 'In three months' time we will assemble them in one region and by then we will have an international expert who will observe them.'
He revealed that the tour is sponsored by the Sierra Leone Basketball Association in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
