Trailing Mont Fleuri by three points – 34-37 – at the start of the fourth and final quarter, coach Robinson Boniface’s Bel Air scored 22 points and limited their opponents to 10 on the way to a 56-47 victory in the women’s final.
After relinquishing the League title to Anse Etoile Stars who went on to defend their Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup to complete a double, Bel Air needed a victory to add another piece of silverware to their Curtain-raiser and National Day trophies won earlier this year.
Centre Lindy Aglae and Malagasy forward Lalatiana Razaiarisoa were Bel Air’s only two players in double digits, scoring 13 points apiece.
Mont Fleuri’s skipper Bernadette Songor led all scores with 21 points in a lost cause and Tracey Moustache was the losing team’s only other player in double figures with 13 points.
“It was disappointing to lose the major titles (League and SBF Cup) but we won all the competitions which prove that we are a good team and we can still rival with Anse Etoile Stars,” said coach Boniface.
It is to note that the third place play-off matches played two weekends ago were won by Bel Air Blazers with a 68-62 victory over Anse Etoile (Men division 1B/Men division 2), Anse Etoile Stars with an 80-69 defeat of Hot Shots (women) and PLS Hawks with an over-time 57-55 score over PLS Dynamics (Men division 1A).By Nation
