We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Youssou Ndoye

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France). He led JL Bourg to a 2-point victory over the closely-ranked JDA Dijon (17-4) 90-88 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA in Saturday night's game. Ndoye was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 14 rebounds in 39 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. JL Bourg Basket (18-4) is placed second in the Jeep ELITE ProA. Ndoye has relatively good stats this year: 14.1ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.4bpg, 2FGP: 64.7%(108-167), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 73.1% in 19 games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former U18 international center Youssoupha Fall (221-95, currently plays in France). Fall led SIG Strasbourg to a 2-point victory over the 12th-ranked Le Mans (8-13) 77-75 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA last Saturday. He was the best player in that game. Fall scored 15 points, had 7 rebounds and made 4 blocks. SIG Strasbourg (12-9) is placed seventh in the Jeep ELITE ProA. Fall has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 67.9%(112-165) and FT: 57.1%. Fall played for the Senegalese U18 national team in 2012.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Cheikh Mbodj (208-87, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Cincinnati, currently plays in Poland). Mbodj led Twarde Pierniki to a victory over the tenth-ranked Legia (10-11) 94-80 in the Polish EBL in Friday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Mbodj scored 19 points, had 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Polski Cukier Torun (17-4) is placed third in the EBL. This season Mbodj has relatively solid stats: 12.3ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2.0bpg, 2FGP: 58.2%(99-170) and FT: 70.1%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #4. Center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in EuroCup) could not help Andorra (5-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the second-placed Andorra (5-1) lost 75-79 on the road to the leading ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket in the group H of Eurocup. Diagne was the top scorer with 16 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. They ended the series of eight consecutive victories. This year Diagne's overall stats are: 7.9ppg and 5.3rpg in 18 games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish. Worth to mention Diagne played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Diagne used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2016.

An experienced international forward Mouhammad Faye (207-85, college: SMU, currently plays in ABA League) managed to help Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd in a victory against the ninth-ranked KK Zadar (7-14) 87-69 in the ABA League in Saturday night's game. Faye scored only 3 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 16 minutes. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (20-1) is placed first in the ABA League. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the ABA League Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Faye's total stats are: 7.0ppg, 4.9rpg and 1.1apg in 17 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #6. Forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in EuroCup) was not able to help Unics Kazan in their game against Lokomotiv (4-2) in the Eurocup. Ndour scored 5 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 21 minutes. Unics Kazan lost 59-68 in Krasnodar to the second-ranked Lokomotiv in the group H of Eurocup. Ndour has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.2spg in 15 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

Former international center Maodo Nguirane (210-93, currently plays in Africa Basketball League) was the main contributor in a JS Kairouan's victory against the fourth-ranked SLAC (0-3) 80-65 in the Africa Basketball League on Friday night. Nguirane was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 12 rebounds. J.S.Kairouan (2-1) is placed second in group A. The Regular Season already ended in the Africa Basketball League. This season Nguirane has very high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 13.7rpg, 1.7apg and 1.7spg. Nguirane used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #8. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, agency: BeoBasket, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Gran Canaria (10-10) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Gran Canaria was edged 89-87 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Burgos (#12). Hannah scored 10 points and added 3 assists. Hannah has reliable stats this season: 10.5ppg, 2.0rpg and 3.8apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and American. Hannah used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2017.

Former international center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) contributed to a 2-point Osaka Evessa's victory against the second-ranked Kyoto Hannaryz (24-19) 77-75 in the Japanese B League last Saturday. He was the top player that evening. Faye recorded 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. Osaka Evessa (17-26) is placed fourth in West group. Faye has averaged so far 8.6ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.1apg in 43 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #10. Power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in Romania) was the major contributor in a CS Dinamo Bucuresti's victory against the third-ranked CSM Steaua Bucuresti (3-2) 73-67 in a derby game in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. Barro scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group Yellow. CS Dinamo Bucuresti (5-0) is placed first. So far his team won all five games in the Second Stage. Barro's stats this season are: 13.4ppg, 9.0rpg, 1.3apg and 1.6spg. He is a former U18 international player as seventeen years ago he still played for the Senegalese national team.

   #11. International center Hamady N'Diaye (213-87, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Sidigas AV in their game against Dolomiti En. TR in the Italian Serie A. N'Diaye scored only 4 points in 12 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 18 points 97-79. N'Diaye has averaged so far 6.9ppg, 4.7rpg and 2.0bpg in 14 games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #12. International center Gorgui Dieng (211-90, college: Louisville, currently plays in NBA) couldn't help the Minnesota Timberwolves in their game against the Detroit Pistons in the NBA. Dieng scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. His team were badly defeated by 17 points 131-114 in the NBA. Dieng has averaged so far 5.5ppg and 4.0rpg. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.

   #13. Former international power forward Ibrahima Faye (207-97, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to a Leuven Bears' victory against the closely-ranked Limburg United 88-79 in the Belgian Euromillions League on Saturday night. Faye scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. Faye's stats this year are: 12.6ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.3apg in 15 games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team three years ago.

   #14. Former U18 international center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet in their game against Melilla Baloncesto in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Despite his good performance on Friday night He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Mbaye also added 2 blocks. Mbaye has averaged so far 7.9ppg and 4.3rpg. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2008.

   #15. International center Moise Diame (206-86, currently plays in France) helped Saint Vallier win their game against the fourth-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne 87-71 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Diame recorded 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Saint Vallier this season. Diame is also in the roster of the Senegalese national team.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Spain) led Baskonia to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Unicaja Malaga (13-8) 112-95 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. He scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in only a mere 10 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria (15-6) is placed third in the Liga Endesa. It's Diop's sixth season with the team. This year Diop's overall stats are: 6.9ppg and 3.8rpg in 21 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #2. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) could not help Virtus Bologna (10-4) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his good performance Virtus Bologna was edged 74-74 on the road by the much lower-ranked Le Mans (#12) in the group D of Basketball Champions League. M'Baye recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds. M'Baye has reliable stats this season: 11.6ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.4apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and French.

   #3. Oumar Seck (208-C-88, currently plays in Qatar) was not able to help Al Arabi in their game against Al Shamal (12-4) in the Qatari D1. Despite his very good performance last Saturday Seck recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting the same number of rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. Seck has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.8ppg, 12.1rpg, 1.9apg and 1.2bpg.

   #4. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) was the major contributor in Bakken's victory against the leader Ironi Nes-Ziona (4-2) 91-74 in the FIBA Europe Cup on Wednesday night. Diouf recorded 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group L. Bakken Bears (3-3) is placed second. It's Diouf's fourth season with the team. He has reliable stats this year: 12.2ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.6bpg in 13 games.

   #5. Lamine Diane (201-F-97, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the CS Northridge (2-2) in their game against the Univ. of California-Santa Barbara (1-2) in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance in Thursday night's game Diane recorded a double-double by scoring 34 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks and 3 steals. Diane's team will play only one more game in the NCAA Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This season Diane has very high stats. He averages: 24.5ppg, 10.9rpg, 1.9apg, 2.2bpg and 1.5spg.

   #6. Mamadou Niang (209-C-94, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) couldn't help CB Canarias in their game against Promitheas in the Basketball Champions League. He recorded only 4 points in 5 minutes on the court. His team lost 57-69. Niang has averaged so far 5.8ppg and 3.4rpg in 12 games.

   #7. Experienced Amadou Mbodji (211-F-86, college: Jacksonville St., currently plays in Africa Basketball League) led his Tunisian team ES Rades to a victory over the closely-ranked Defenders 96-80 in the Africa Basketball League on Saturday night. Mbodji was the top player that evening. He scored 26 points (!!!), grabbed 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 21 minutes. Mbodji's stats this year are: 15.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.0bpg in two games. He attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

   #8. Bira Seck (204-PF-90, agency: Interperformances, college: Idaho, currently plays in Japan) contributed to a Tokyo Cinq Reves' victory against the closely-ranked Gifu Swoops 79-74 in the Japanese B League D3 in Saturday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 13 rebounds. Seck's stats this season are: 14.0ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.8apg.

   #9. Tacko Fall (229-C-95, currently studies in the States) helped Cent.Florida win their game against the University of Houston 69-64 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Fall recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 10 rebounds. Fall averaged so far 11.2ppg, 7.3rpg and 2.5bpg.

   #10. Khadim Sow (210-C-99, currently plays in EuroCup) couldn't help ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket in their game against Andorra in the Eurocup. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Sow scored only one point in 15 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 98-79. Sow has averaged so far 0.8ppg and 1.5rpg in 11 games.

Douanes, USO and DUC reached the 5th victories in the League. In the latest game Le Dakar Universite Club overcame Mermoz BC 73-51 at the Marius Ndiaye stadium. Douanes meanwhile handed in US Ouakam their first loss. They outscored the opponents 57-44 as both teams are with 5-1 records.   [read more]
