We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Ibrahima Faye

   #1. This week's number one is former international power forward Ibrahima Faye (207-97, currently plays in Belgium). He was the major contributor in a 1-point Leuven Bears' victory against the league outsider Liege Basket (3-13) 84-83 in the Belgian Euromillions League on Wednesday night. Faye had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) in 36 minutes on the court. Stella Artois Leuven Bears (4-12) is placed second from the bottom (#9) in the Euromillions League. It's Faye's first season with the team. Faye has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 52.5% and FT: 74.6% in 14 games he played so far. He played for the Senegalese senior national team three years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international center Maodo Nguirane (210-93, currently plays in Africa Basketball League). Nguirane led his Tunisian team JS Kairouan to a victory over the closely-ranked SLAC (0-2) 80-65 in the Africa Basketball League last Friday. He was MVP of the game. Nguirane had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 12 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was his first game for JS Kairouan this season. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed second in the Africa Basketball League. There are only two games left until the end of the Africa Basketball League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Nguirane has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish. He played for the Senegalese national team in 2017.

The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was former international point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, agency: BeoBasket, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Euroleague). Hannah could not help Gran Canaria (6-18) to beat Panathinaikos (11-13). He scored 8 points and added 5 passes. Gran Canaria was badly defeated 99-80 at home by the higher-ranked Panathinaikos (#11). It was Gran Canaria's ninth consecutive loss in a row. This season Hannah has relatively solid stats: 11.0ppg, 1.4rpg, 4.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 50.9%, 3FGP: 32.6% and FT: 92.3%(36-39). He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and American. Hannah played for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

Power forward Cheikh Sane (207-92, college: Marshall, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to a Horsens IC's victory against the fourth-ranked Naestved (13-9) 76-70 in the Danish BasketLigaen on Thursday night. He scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Horsens IC (15-6) is placed second in ProA group. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Sane's overall stats this season are: 6.6ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team back in 2008.

   #5. Former U18 international center Papa Mbaye (209-90, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Lleida Basquet (11-13) in their last game. Despite Mbaye's good performance Lleida Basquet lost 72-83 on the road to the second-ranked Melilla_Baloncesto. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Mbaye also added 2 blocks in 25 minutes. It was Lleida Basquet's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Mbaye averages: 7.9ppg and 4.3rpg in 23 games. He used to play for the Senegalese U18 national team eleven years ago.

   #6. Center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Osaka Evessa (15-26) in their game against Akita Happinets (14-27) in the Japanese B League. Faye was the second best scorer with 9 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 32 minutes. But the fourth-placed Osaka Evessa (15-26) lost 55-70 in Akita to the lower-ranked (#5) Happinets in the West group. It was Osaka Evessa's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Faye's overall stats are: 8.2ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.1apg in 41 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Senegalese senior team two years ago.

An experienced international point guard Xane d'Almeida (181-83, currently plays in France) helped Charleville-Mezieres win their game against the ninth-ranked Besancon (10-15) 77-74 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. He recorded 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Etoile Charleville-Mezieres (11-14) is placed seventh in Group A. d'Almeida's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. d'Almeida has reliable stats this season: 14.6ppg, 4.2rpg, 6.6apg and 1.2spg. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #12. Former international forward Modou Mbaye (202-94, currently plays in Spain) helped Tarragona edge the 12th-ranked Calvia 81-80 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Sunday night's game. Mbaye recorded 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Mbaye's total stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.4apg. He used to play for the Senegalese national team back in 2017.

   #13. U18 international center Biram Faye (206-0, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Fontedoso Carrefour in their game against La Roda in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Faye scored only 4 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 15 minutes. His team was badly defeated by 19 points 81-62. Faye averaged so far 10.3ppg, 7.7rpg and 1.4bpg in 23 games. He is also Senegalese U18 national team player.

   #1. Michel Diouf (208-C-89, currently plays in Denmark) led Bakken to a victory over the third-ranked Svendborg (13-8) 97-78 in the Danish BasketLigaen in Thursday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Diouf scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group ProA. Bakken Bears (20-1) is placed first. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Diouf's fourth season with the team. This year he averages: 8.8ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3apg in 16 games he played so far.

   #2. Tacko Fall (229-C-95, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Southern Methodist University (1-4) crushing them 95-48 in the NCAA last Sunday. Fall recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 20 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. The University of Central Florida has 4-1 conference record this season. There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Fall's fourth year with the team. Fall has relatively good stats this season: 11.2ppg, 7.3rpg and 2.6bpg.

   #3. Lamine Diane (201-F-97, currently studies in the States) contributed to a CS Northridge's victory against the University of California - Davis (3-1) 81-76 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Diane recorded a double-double by scoring 35 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. The Cal State - Northridge has 2-2 conference record this season. There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Diane has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 24.2ppg, 10.9rpg, 2.0apg, 2.2bpg and 1.4spg.

   #4. Bira Seck (204-PF-90, agency: Interperformances, college: Idaho, currently plays in Japan) was the main contributor in a Tokyo Cinq Reves' victory against the league outsider Tokyo Big Blue (0-31) 95-82 in a derby game in the Japanese B League D3 on Sunday night. Seck was the best player in that game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 16 rebounds. Tokyo Cinq Reves (19-13) are placed fifth in the B League D3. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. This season Seck has relatively solid stats: 13.8ppg, 8.0rpg and 1.9apg.

   #5. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria in a victory against the 13th-ranked Zalgiris (9-15) 80-73 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. He scored only 4 points in 14 minutes. Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria (12-12) is placed eighth in the Euroleague. Diop has been at the team for six years. This season Diop averages: 4.6ppg and 2.8rpg in 24 games. He has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #6. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) helped Real Betis win their game against the league outsider CB Prat 78-63 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 8 points in 16 minutes. This year Samb averages: 3.5ppg and 3.3rpg in 23 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish. Despite Samb's Senegalese nationality, he previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #7. Oumar Seck (208-C-88, currently plays in Qatar) helped Al Arabi win their game against the league leader Al Sadd 71-60 in a derby game in the Qatari D1 in Wednesday night's game. Seck recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 5 blocks. This season Seck has very high stats. He averages: 16.8ppg, 11.5rpg, 2.0apg and 1.1bpg.

   #8. Tanor Ngom (218-F, currently plays in Canada) helped Ryerson University win their game against the Gee-Gees crushing them 84-61 in the U Sports last Saturday. Ngom was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 14 rebounds. Ngom also added 2 blocks in 29 minutes. Ngom has reliable stats this year: 12.1ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.1bpg in 22 games.

   #9. Diarra Sidate (210-F-90, currently plays in Japan) helped Cyberdyne IR win their game against the sixth-ranked Aomori Watts 90-74 in the Japanese B2 League last Sunday. Sidate recorded 8 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sidate's overall stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 4.1rpg. He has both Senegalese and Japanese nationalities.

   #10. Atoumane Diagne (215-C-98, currently plays in Spain) helped Barca II win their game against the closely-ranked Real Canoe 64-61 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) in Saturday night's game. Diagne scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Diagne's total stats this season are: 7.3ppg, 6.6rpg and 1.7bpg.
