We bring you last week's top performances from Senegalese players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Maurice Ndour (206-92, college: Ohio, currently plays in VTB United League). He led his Russian team Unics Kazan to a victory over the tenth-ranked Avtodor (0-1) 76-63 in the VTB United League last Sunday. Ndour was MVP of the game. He recorded 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Unics Kazan this season. His team is placed sixth in the VTB United League. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Ndour is currently a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Hamady N'Diaye

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Hamady N'Diaye (213-87, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Italy). He managed to help Sidigas Avellino in a victory against one of league's weakest teams MIA-RO Cantu (0-1) 98-81 in the Italian Serie A on Saturday night. N'Diaye recorded only 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks in 16 minutes. It was his first game for Sidigas AV this season. His team is placed fourth in the Serie A. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. N'Diaye has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and Filipino. He is in the roster of the Senegalese senior national team.

   #3. The Senegalese player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Youssou Ndoye (213-91, college: St.Bonaventure, currently plays in France). Ndoye could not help JL Bourg (3-1) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance JL Bourg was crushed 103-74 on the road by the lower-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (#7). Ndoye was the top scorer with 19 points. He also added 8 rebounds and 5 blocks (made all of his seven free throws). But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Ndoye has relatively good stats this season: 14.8ppg, 9.0rpg, 2.3bpg, 2FGP: 52.6% and FT: 79.2%. He is also a member of the Senegalese senior national team.

Clevin Hannah

   #4. Point guard Clevin Hannah (179-87, agency: BeoBasket, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in a Gran Canaria's victory against the 16th-ranked Leche Rio Breogan (0-2) crushing them 96-72 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday. Hannah was the best player in that game. He scored 19 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 23 minutes. Herbalife Gran Canaria (1-0) is placed fifth in the Liga Endesa. This year Hannah has relatively solid stats: 14.7ppg, 3.7rpg and 5.0apg in three games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and American. Hannah used to play for the Senegalese national team last year.

An experienced international forward Mouhammad Faye (207-85, college: SMU, currently plays in EuroCup) contributed to a 3-point Crvena Zvezda's victory against the fourth-ranked Monaco (1-1) 66-63 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. Faye scored 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (2-0) is placed first in group A. It's Faye's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 6.5ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.0apg and 1.5spg. Faye plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

Center Cheikh Mbodj (208-87, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Cincinnati, currently plays in Poland) contributed to a Twarde Pierniki's victory against one of league's weakest teams Trefl (0-1) 76-72 in the Polish EBL on Sunday night. He recorded 5 points, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks in 19 minutes. It was his first game for Twarde Pierniki this season. His team is placed eighth in the EBL. Mbodj is an international player who is currently on the senior Senegalese National Team roster.

   #7. Former international center Moussa Diagne (211-94, currently plays in Spain) helped Andorra win their game against the tenth-ranked Joventut (1-1) 75-65 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Friday night's game. Diagne scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. MoraBanc Andorra (2-1) is placed fifth in the Liga Endesa. This season Diagne averages: 4.3ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.3apg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

Center Pape Faye (200-87, currently plays in Japan) was the major contributor in an Osaka Evessa's victory against the third-ranked Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo (1-1) 74-68 in the Japanese B League last Saturday. Faye recorded 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 22 minutes. Osaka Evessa (1-1) is placed fourth in West group. Faye has reliable stats this year: 12.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 2.5apg in two games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team last year.

Former international center Bamba Fall (217-86, college: SMU, currently plays in Latvia) helped TLU/Kalev win their game against the league outsider Valga-Valka (0-4) crushing them 87-61 in the Latvian LatEstBL in Saturday night's game. Fall scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 13 minutes. Tallinna Ulikool/Kalev (2-1) is placed fifth in the LatEstBL. Fall averaged so far 13.0ppg, 7.7rpg, 1.3bpg and 1.3spg in three games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team eleven years ago.

Power forward Ousmane Barro (207-84, college: Marquette, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup) helped his Bulgarian team Rilski win their game against the 28th-ranked Joensuun Kataja 79-61 in the FIBA Europe Cup last Wednesday. Barro recorded 5 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Rilski Sportist Samokovis placed 24th in the FIBA Europe Cup. Barro's overall stats this season are: 4.5ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.5apg. He is a former U18 international player as sixteen years ago he still played for the Senegalese national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Ibrahima Faye (207-97, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to help Leuven Bears (0-2) in their last game. Despite Faye's good performance the bottom-ranked Leuven Bears lost 66-76 in Charleroi to the higher-ranked (#5) Spirou. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 18 rebounds. Faye also added 3 assists in 29 minutes. This year Faye's overall stats are: 6.5ppg, 13.0rpg and 3.0apg in two games. He used to play for the Senegalese national team two years ago.

   #12. U18 international center Biram Faye (206-0, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Fontedoso Carrefour (0-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance the 11th-placed Fontedoso Carrefour was defeated 79-75 in Logrono by the higher-ranked Cocinas.com (#6) in the West group. Faye recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 3 blocks. Faye averaged so far 13.0ppg, 9.0rpg, 1.5apg and 3.0bpg. He is also in the roster of the Senegalese U18 national team.

   #13. International guard Lamine Sambe (188-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help Rueil in their game against Etoile Angers in the French NM1 (third division), despite his very good performance in Friday night's game. Sambe was the top scorer with 23 points. He also added 4 rebounds in 33 minutes. But his team lost 80-91. Sambe averaged so far 14.8ppg, 3.0rpg and 5.3apg in four games. He is also Senegalese national team player.

   #14. International point guard Xane d'Almeida (181-83, currently plays in France) couldn't help Charleville-Mezieres in their game against Orchesien BC in the French NM1 (third division), despite his very good performance on Saturday night. He was the top scorer with 21 points. d'Almeida also added 8 passes in 34 minutes. But his team was edged 75-72. d'Almeida averaged so far 14.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 8.3apg in four games. He plays currently for the Senegalese national team.

   #15. Former international power forward Jules Aw (202-86, currently plays in Switzerland) helped Massagno win their game against the league outsider Swiss Central 71-61 in the Swiss SBL last Sunday. Aw had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting the same number of rebounds in 38 minutes. Aw has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg and 13.5rpg in two games. Aw used to play for the Senegalese national team eleven years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Senegalese passport but never been selected to any of Senegalese national teams:

   #1. Amath M'Baye (206-F-89, college: Oklahoma, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) contributed to an overtime Virtus Bologna's victory against the sixth-ranked Neptunas (0-1) 83-78 in the Basketball Champions League in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 32 minutes. It was his first game for Virtus Bologna this season. His team is placed first in group D. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. M'Baye has a dual citizenship: Senegalese and French. Despite his Senegalese passport, M'Baye previously played for the French U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Senegalese team.

   #2. Mamadou Niang (209-C-94, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Telekom Baskets (0-1) 87-68 in the Basketball Champions League on Tuesday night. He recorded 6 points. It was his first game for CB Canarias this season. His team is placed second in group B. It's Niang's fourth year with the team.

   #3. Ilimane Diop (210-C-95, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Kirolbet Baskonia Vitoria in a victory against the 13th-ranked Zalgiris (0-1) 87-79 in the Euroleague in Friday night's game. Diop recorded 5 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in 21 minutes. It was his first game for Baskonia this season. His team is placed fourth in the Euroleague. It's Diop's sixth year with the team. He is another player who holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #4. Wally Niang (206-C-96, currently plays in Sweden) could not help Wetterbygden (2-3) in their last game on Friday. Despite Niang's very good performance Wetterbygden was crushed 104-80 at home by the second-ranked Boras Basket. He recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 13 rebounds. Niang has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 18.5ppg and 11.5rpg.

   #5. Malik Dime (206-F/C-92, college: Washington, currently plays in Finland) was not able to help Ura Basket (0-1) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Dime's very good performance the bottom-ranked Ura Basket was crushed 110-73 on the road by the leading Tampereen Pyrinto. He was the top scorer with 23 points. Dime also added 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. It was his first game for Ura Basket this season. Dime has both American and Senegalese nationalities.

   #6. Mamadou Diagne (208-C-98, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Spain) led Barbera to a victory over the 13th-ranked Palma II 62-58 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. He was the top player that evening. Diagne had a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. Diagne has very impressive stats this year: 16.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.3apg in three games he played so far.

   #7. Atoumane Diagne (215-C-98, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Barca II (0-2) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Diagne's good performance Barca II was edged 86-83 on the opponent's court by the second-ranked Palencia_Baloncesto. He scored 10 points, grabbed 4 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 5 shots. Diagne's total stats this season are: 8.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.5apg and 4.0bpg.

   #8. Mamadou Samb (210-C/F-89, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Real Betis in their game against Magia Huesca in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Samb recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. His team was defeated 92-84. Samb's total stats this season are: 3.5ppg and 3.5rpg. He also holds two passports: Senegalese and Spanish.

   #9. Bira Seck (204-PF-90, agency: Interperformances, college: Idaho, currently plays in Japan) couldn't help Tokyo Cinq Reves (0-2) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Tokyo Cinq Reves were defeated 91-78 in a derby game by the leading Koshigaya Alphas. Seck scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Seck's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg and 5.0rpg.

   #10. Yande Fall (203-C/F-90, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Viola RC in their game against Olimpia Matera in the Italian Serie B (third division), despite his good performance on Sunday night. He was the second best scorer with 12 points. Fall also added 9 rebounds in 21 minutes. It was his first game for Viola RC this season. But his team was edged 60-58. Fall has Senegalese and Italian nationalities.

SIDY DJITTE Spartak Primorie Vladivostok (Superleague 1) inked 24-year old Senegalese center Sidy Djitte (208-109kg-94, college: Clemson). He started the season at Sutjeska in Montenegrin Erste Liga. In three games he recorded 9.3ppg, 11.3rpg and 2.0bpg this season. Djitte ended the last season at the OKC Blue in NBA. AS Douanes clinched SuperCup title as they defeated Saint Louis Basket Club last night. In a real thriller at the court AS Douanes grabbed a valuable 61-59 win. The board showed 36-30 advantage at the halftime, while the final score proved the great effort and achievement from both sides. Earlier in May AS Douanes celebrated Coupe Saint Michel title as they defeated US Ouakam 60-52. Pape Moustapha Diop (AS Douanes) was named MVP of the tournament.   [read more]
