RBL Round 13 (Regular Season): Patriots keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Patriots as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Patriots defeated 6th ranked UGB in Kigali 98-92. Patriots looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Patriots made 11 blocks. American point guard Jeffery Stubbs (189-1991, college: Jackson St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 assists for the winners and naturalized Nigerian forward Chingka Garba (201-2001) chipped in 11 points, 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. At the losing side Ghanian James Amotoe (-1998) responded with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Patriots (8-3) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. UGB at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Kigali: Kepler (#5) and Azomco (#8). Kepler (5-4) won against visiting Azomco (3-8) 96-84. Canadian guard Chad Bowie (188-1996, college: SHSU) nailed 30 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Jabs Newby accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. Jarode Aworet (-2001) came up with 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) for Azomco in the defeat. Azomco's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Kepler. They maintain fifth place with 5-4 record. Azomco at the other side keeps the eighth position with eight games lost.
Bottom-ranked Inspired Gen. (0-12) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 12th consecutive match to fourth ranked REG (7-3) 98-64 on Sunday evening. Fabrice Muhoza fired 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. REG's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Jean Mouandjo produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. REG moved-up to third place. Inspired Gen. lost their twelfth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with 12 games lost.




Kepler - Azomco 96-84
