Espoir has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Azomco (0-4) 85-74 on Friday. Espoir dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Azomco's 34. Strangely Azomco outrebounded Espoir 53-41 including a 30-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. Espoir looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Azomco's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Espoir made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center Fortunate Mwanawabene (-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and Eric Muhayumukiza (-1995) who added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side American guard Damaria Franklin (190-1999, college: Memphis) responded with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Espoir (1-3) left bottom position moving up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. It was Azomco's fourth loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with four games lost.
