United Generation Basketball (UGB) registered their very first win of the Rwanda Basketball League 2025 season after beating Patriots 73-69 in a thrilling match held at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium on Friday night, January 31. UGB were coming back to winning ways after struggling on the opening day with a narrow 67-71 loss to Kepler last week. Center Mohamed Doumbya (1997) scored a game high 22 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists to help the club successfully complete a major upset against Patriots who are regarded as one of the biggest clubs in the country.
Elsewhere, APR maintained their perfect start to the season by beating AZOMCO 103-67 in the first game of the day played at LDK Gymnasium. The army side was handed a roster boost with the long-awaited return of their star point guard Adonis Filer (195-G-1993, college: FAU) who was playing his first match after eight months on the sidelines. The American had torn his Achilles tendon in May 2024 when APR were participating in the Sahara Conference group phase games of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Dakar, Senegal.
The league continues on Saturday, February 1, when Orion take on Kepler while REG go up against Espoir. Both games are taking place at LDK Gymnasium.
