Local basketball power-houses APR and Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will face off in the Rwanda Super Cup on January 17 at BK Arena. Introduced by the 2023 General Assembly, the Super Cup serves as the curtain-raiser for the new season of Rwanda Basketball League (RBL). It pits the league champions against the winners of the Rwanda Cup in a one-game battle. Since APR won both trophies last year, REG has only been invited to play the Super Cup as runners up of Rwanda Cup 2024. REG is expected to be without Dieudonne Ndizeye and Steven Hagumintwari (198-PF-1993), the two forwards, whose transfer from Patriots is turning out to be characterised by a number of twists and turns. The team is also expected to be without their new head coach Ogoh Odaudu , and will be coached by his deputy, Maxime Mwiseneza .
