APR ease past Patriots to set Rwanda Cup final date with rivals REG

APR and Rwanda Energy Group (REG) have reached the finals of the first edition of the Rwanda Cup after winning their respective semi-final games on Wednesday, August 7. Established this year, the tournament aims to increase the number of competitions and teams playing in the country, fostering players’ development and raising the overall performance standards. This year’s edition featured 17 men’s teams divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D). The semi-finals unfolded at the Lycee de Kigali Gymnasium on Wednesday, with REG beating Espoir 98-72, while APR overpowered Patriots 91-70. During the much-anticipated encounter between APR and the Patriots, American guard Isaiah Miller (183-PG-1998, college: UNCG) scored a game high 24 points for APR while his teammate Axel Mpoyo (203-F-1997, college: GSU), a forward, added 15 points. For the Patriots, small forward Dieudonne Ndizeye posted 27 points while teammate Frank Kamndoh (201-F-1998) contributed 10 points. The final game of the tournament is scheduled for August 9 at Lycee de Kigali Gymnasium. The winners of the Rwanda Cup will earn a ticket to compete in the forthcoming East Africa Cup.
