RBL Round 19 (Regular Season): Tigers are defeated by UGB in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kigali: UGB (#7) and Tigers (#5). UGB (5-8) won against visiting Tigers (8-8) 74-67. UGB forced 20 Tigers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Patrick Rembert (185-1990, college: UC Irvine) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists. Montenegrin Nemanja Milosevic (204-1987, college: WKU) helped adding 24 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side Central African forward Morel Lenguewane (202-2000) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. Tigers' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. UGB maintains seventh place with 5-8 record. Tigers at the other side keep the fifth position with eight games lost.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two teams from Kigali: APR (#2) and Espoir (#4). APR (14-1) crushed visiting Espoir (9-6) by 19 points 94-75. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Ntore Habimana (196-1997, college: Laurier) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Aliou Diarra accounted for 18 points and 13 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). APR's coach Cliff Owuor allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Fortunate Mwanawabene came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds for Espoir in the defeat. APR have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 14-1 record behind leader Patriots. Espoir at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost.
RBL top team - Patriots (15-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Inspired Gen. (1-17) in Kigali 100-57. Emmanuel Ishimwe fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Freddy Kwizera produced 19 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. The victory was the fifteenth consecutive win for Patriots. They maintain first place with 15-0 record. Newly promoted Inspired Gen. stay dead last with 17 lost games.

In the last game of round 19 Orion won against Inspired Gen. on the opponent's court 89-84.




Inspired Gen. - Orion 84-89

Rather expected game in Kigali where 10th ranked Inspired Gen. (1-17) was defeated by eighth ranked Orion (4-12) 89-84 on Wednesday. Orion forced 23 Inspired Gen. turnovers and had a 42-31 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Charles Nkurunziza fired 29 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Gedeon Niyigena chipped in 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Orion's coach Albert Buhake used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Patrick Rugamba produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and Freddy Kwizera (-1996) added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Orion maintains eighth place with 4-12 record. Newly promoted Inspired Gen. stay dead last with 17 lost games.

Patriots dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Inspired Gen.'s 18. Patriots forced 31 Inspired Gen. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Inspired Gen.'s players. Emmanuel Ishimwe fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Samuel Ndayizeye chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Four Patriots players scored in double figures. Freddy Kwizera (-1996) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and forward Patrick Rugamba added 8 points and 13 rebounds respectively for lost side. Mali forward Aliou Diarra (200-2001) accounted for 18 points and 13 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side.
