APR’s star point guard Adonis Filer (195-G-1993, college: FAU) has said he is returning in Rwanda ‘soon’ where he will spend the rest of his rehabilitation. The American left for the United States in May to undergo a surgery on an Achilles tendon injury which he picked during the Sahara Conference group phase of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2024 held in Dakar, Senegal. The injury incident occurred in the second quarter of APR’s game against Nigerian powerhouse Rivers Hoopers as he maneuvered past an opponent, resulting in a misstep that left him writhing in agony. The injury could keep Filer on the sidelines until the end of the year but, after passing the surgery, he is looking to continue his recovery in Rwanda. “I will be back (in Rwanda) soon assuming I don’t have any setbacks while I’m here at home,” Filer told Times Sport. Filer said he will be linking up with APR physios as he continues his healing journey. “And I still have a while to go. Maybe until December or January is when I can play again but it depends on my body or how I’m healing. Rushing it could hurt my career long term. So patience is my best friend now,” he noted. The start point guard will miss the playoffs but he insists he wants to come and cheer on his teammates from the stands as they push to retain the championship for a second straight time.
