Forward Steven Hagumintwari (198-PF-1993) scored a team high 23 points to help Patriots overcome Orion 86-67 at Lyéee de Kigali gymnasium on Wednesday night. Small forward Dieudonné Ndizeye and point guard Sedard Sagamba (188-PG-1990) added 15 and 13 points, respectively as Patriots maintained their unbeaten streak. Henry Mwinuka (PG)’s side started brightly, claiming the first two quarters 27-16 and 17-16 to take a 44-32 lead at the break. In The second half, Patriots continued to dominate the encounter and took the third quarter 21-14 before both sides were tied to 21-21 in the last quarter. Olivier Kamanzi (C-1996) and Caleb Podo each dropped 15 points for Orion but they couldn’t do enough to hand an upset to Patriots even when they were without star point guard Will Perry who is on BAL playoffs duty with Nigeria’s Rovers Hoopers. The victory saw Patriots retain their top spot on the league table with 20 points, one point ahead of REG while APR are third with 17 points. Orion stayed in seventh place. The Rwanda Basketball League will take a one-week break. It will return after the Basketball Africa League AL playoffs and finals conclude in Kigali on June 1.
