D1 Round 4: UGB lose to Patriots- June 13, 2021
There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
REG - Espoir 89-60 Very expected game when 12th ranked Espoir (1-3) was crushed on the road by top-ranked REG (4-0) 89-60 on Friday. REG have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Patriots. Loser Espoir dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. REG will face bottom-ranked UR-CMHS (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. UGB - Patriots 58-67 The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of UGB (1-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Patriots (4-0) 67-58. Patriots have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with REG. UGB at the other side dropped to the seventh place with one game lost. Patriots will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UGB will play against Tigers (#11) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident. 30 Plus - Rusizi 66-61 30 Plus has registered their first victory this season after two consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Rusizi (1-3) 66-61 on Saturday. 30 Plus (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. Loser Rusizi keeps the ninth position with three games lost. They share it with Espoir and Tigers. Espoir - UR-CMHS 109-51 Espoir has registered their first victory this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat UR-CMHS (0-5) 109-51. Espoir (1-3) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Rusizi and Tigers. It was UR-CMHS's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Espoir will have a break next round. UR-CMHS will play against the league's second-placed REG (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory. IPRC-Huye - REG 45-73 Very important is a home loss of second ranked IPRC-Huye (2-1) against top-ranked REG (4-0) on Saturday night. Host IPRC-Huye was crushed by REG in 73-45. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of IPRC-Huye. REG have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Patriots. IPRC-Huye at the other side dropped to the fifth place with one game lost. They share the position with SFTS. REG will play against bottom-ranked UR-CMHS (#14) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. IPRC-Huye will have a break next round. UR-Huye - Patriots 36-82 Top-ranked Patriots blasted bottom-ranked UR-Huye (0-1) in 82-36 on Saturday evening keeping the perfect record after 4 rounds. UR-Huye is still unable to win any game. Patriots have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion (4-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with REG. Loser UR-Huye still closes the standings with one game lost. Patriots will have a break next round. UR-Huye will play against IPRC-Musanze (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory. Tigers - SFTS 74-79 The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventh ranked SFTS's (2-1) road victory over 8th ranked Tigers (1-3) 79-74 on Saturday. SFTS moved-up to fifth place, which they share with IPRC-Huye. Loser Tigers dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. SFTS will face higher ranked IPRC-Kigali (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tigers will play against UGB (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. |
