Three players from The NBA Academy Africa will join other prospects from the NBA Academies from India and China for a week of on-court training and off-court development in New York City. Dick Rutatika Sano (Rwanda), Kiir Kiir Chol Deng (South Sudan) and Marouf Moumine (Cameroon) will be among the prospects who will participate in on-court training with NBA Academy coaches and staff, compete in exhibition games against a local New York City high school, visit the NBA headquarters, and attend an NBA game.

Following the training in New York, the prospects will travel to Rhode Island where they will watch The NBA Academy Latin America compete against top high school teams at the National Prep Invitational.

Since October 2016, NBA Academies have been launched in Canberra, Australia; Jinan, Urumqi and Zhuji, China; Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), India; Mexico City, Mexico; and Saly, Senegal.

The NBA and SEED Project have opened The NBA Academy Africa, an elite basketball training center in Senegal for the top male and female prospects from throughout Africa and the first of its kind on the continent. In November 2017 the NBA announced the opening of a new elite basketball training center in Saly, Senegal.

In February 2018, the NBA announced the launch of The NBA Academies Women's Program, a series of basketball development camps for top female prospects from outside the U.S at the league's academies and since March 2018, NBA Academies Women's Program camps have been held in India, Mexico and Senegal

NBA Academies include educational development for top male and female prospects from outside the U.S. and mark a signature elite player development initiative. The initiative, which employs a holistic, 360-degree approach to player development with focuses on education, leadership, character development and life skills, exposes elite prospects to NBA-level coaching, facilities and competition and provides a global framework for them to maximize their success.

10 NBA Academies graduates have committed to NCAA D-1 schools including NBA Academy Africa prospect Timothy Ighoefe (Nigeria; Georgetown University).
