Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Nigerians who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland). He led Twarde Pierniki to a victory over the seventh-ranked Wilki Morskie (15-15) 87-71 in the Polish EBL last Sunday. Umeh was MVP of the game. He scored 27 points (!!!). Polski Cukier Torun (24-6) is placed second in the EBL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Umeh's first season with the team. Umeh has relatively good stats this year: 12.8ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.7apg, 2FGP: 55.8%(53-95), 3FGP: 40.9% and FT: 83.0%. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Umeh is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Tonye Jekiri

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Tonye Jekiri (213-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey). He was the major contributor in Gaziantep's victory against the 13th-ranked Istanbul BBSK (6-20) crushing them 94-65 in the Turkish BSL on Saturday night. Jekiri recorded 18 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and made 2 blocks in 24 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. Gaziantep Basketbol (16-10) is placed fifth in the BSL. Jekiri's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. This year Jekiri has relatively solid stats: 12.4ppg, 10.5rpg, 2.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 59.5%(138-232) and FT: 60.3% in 26 games he played so far. He is in the roster of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). He could not help Zaragoza (14-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Okoye's very good performance Zaragoza was edged 91-89 at home by the higher-ranked Valencia Basket (#4). He was the top scorer with 21 points. Okoye also added 4 rebounds. Okoye has reliable stats this season: 15.0ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 47.7%, 3FGP: 44.2% and FT: 76.8%. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Okoye is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Guard Ike Iroegbu (188-95, college: WSU, currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to Lietkabelis' victory against the closely-ranked Rytas (24-9) 83-74 in the Lithuanian LKL in Sunday night's game. He scored 13 points, had 4 boards, passed 6 assists and added 3 steals in 35 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Panevezys Lietkabelis (22-12) is placed fourth in the LKL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Iroegbu's stats this year are: 14.4ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.5apg and 1.1spg in 15 games. He is also Nigerian national team player.

Former international forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in VTB United League) contributed to an Unics Kazan's victory against the 12th-ranked Stelmet Enea BC (5-21) 82-73 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. Ejim scored 11 points. Unics Kazan (21-5) is placed second in the VTB United League. There are only three games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. This season Ejim averages: 7.9ppg and 5.7rpg. He has both Canadian and Nigerian nationalities. Ejim used to play for the Nigerian national team seven years ago.

Forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan) was the main contributor in Gunma's victory against the leader Kumamoto Volters (45-15) 73-72 in the Japanese B2 League last Monday. He was the best player in that game. Kuso had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 13 rebounds in 32 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. Gunma Crane Thunders (43-17) are placed first. Kuso has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 10.8rpg, 3.2apg, 1.7bpg and 1.3spg in 62 games. Kuso is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team twelve years ago.

Former international power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Hapoel Eilat's victory against the eighth-ranked Ironi Nes-Ziona (13-16) 89-77 in the Israeli Winner League on Monday night. He scored 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Hapoel Eilat (20-9) is placed fourth in the Winner League. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. This season Braimoh has very high stats. He averages: 15.9ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.6apg and 1.5spg. Braimoh used to play for the Nigerian national team three years ago.

Forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) helped Portland Trail Blazers win their game against the Denver Nuggets (54-28) 97-90 in the NBA in Wednesday night's game. He had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have a solid 53-29 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Aminu is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Trail Blazers' roster. Aminu's stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 7.5rpg and 1.3apg in 88 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Aminu played previously for the USA U19 national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #9. International center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Puerto Rico) helped Capitanes edge the closely-ranked Piratas (14-9) 85-83 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Monday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 12 rebounds. Akindele also added 6 assists. Capitanes de Arecibo (12-12) is placed fifth in the BSN. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Akindele's overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 10.8rpg, 4.0apg and 1.3spg. He is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #10. Power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Israel) faced previously mentioned Suleiman Braimoh in the Israeli Winner League last game. Zanna was not able to help Ironi Nes-Ziona (13-16) in their last game. Despite his good performance Ironi Nes-Ziona lost 77-89 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) Hapoel Eilat. Zanna scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 31 minutes. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. Zanna averaged so far 13.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.3spg in 16 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. International guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) managed to help JDA Dijon Bourgogne to win against the 15th-ranked Olympique Antibes 84-71 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA last Saturday. Emegano scored only 3 points. Emegano's overall stats this season are: 7.3ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.1spg. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. International guard Caleb Agada (193-94, agency: Blacktop Management, college: Ottawa, currently plays in Spain) helped Melilla Baloncesto win their game against the closely-ranked Palencia Baloncesto 84-76 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) on Friday night. Agada scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 30 minutes. Agada averaged so far 12.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.2apg and 2.4spg in 30 games. Despite he played previously for the Canadian university national team, Agada is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #13. International center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Levallois in their game against SIG Strasbourg in the French Jeep ELITE ProA. He scored 6 points and blocked 2 shots. His team was defeated 69-58. Ibekwe's overall stats this season are: 6.6ppg and 4.6rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ibekwe is also Nigerian national team player.

   #14. Former U22 international power forward Dinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., currently plays in France) couldn't help Sluc Nancy in their game against Nantes in the French ProB (second division). He scored only 4 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 24 minutes. His team was edged 74-71. This year Odiakosa's overall stats are: 6.9ppg and 6.2rpg in 28 games. He used to play for the Nigerian U22 national team back in 2004.

   #15. International point guard Braxton Ogbueze (185-93, college: Charlotte, currently plays in Spain) helped Leyma Basquet win their game against the closely-ranked Magia Huesca 86-74 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. Ogbueze scored only 2 points in 1 minutes on the court. This year Ogbueze's total stats are: 6.0ppg and 1.1apg in 22 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ogbueze is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Boston Celtics (49-33) crushing them 123-102 in the NBA in Tuesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo had a double-double by scoring 29 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists in 31 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid 60-22 record this season. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. Antetokounmpo has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 27.6ppg, 12.4rpg, 5.7apg, 1.5bpg and 1.2spg in 78 games he played so far. Antetokounmpo has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) could not help Sidigas AV (15-13) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Udanoh's very good performance Sidigas AV was defeated 85-79 on the road by the leading Armani Milano. He was the top scorer with 15 points. Udanoh also added 9 rebounds. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Udanoh has reliable stats this season: 12.3ppg, 7.8rpg, 3.0apg and 1.2spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: FSU, currently plays in Serbia) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Dunav SB (0-2) crushing them 101-60 in the Serbian KLS last Saturday. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only a mere 11 minutes. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (2-0) is placed first in Group A. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Ojo's overall stats are: 8.5ppg and 7.0rpg in two games. Worth to mention Ojo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Zaid Hearst (193-G-92, college: Quinnipiac, currently plays in Lithuania) was the main contributor in Nevezis' victory against the closely-ranked Dzukija (12-21) 98-88 in the Lithuanian LKL last Wednesday. Hearst was the best player in that game. He recorded 33 points (!!!). Nevezis Kedainiai (7-28) is placed second from the bottom (#9) in the LKL. Hearst's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. Hearst's stats this season are: 14.2ppg and 2.7rpg. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #5. Peter Olisemeka (204-C-91, currently plays in Bulgaria) was not able to help Academik Plovdiv (13-11) in their last game. Despite Olisemeka's good performance Academik Plovdiv lost 77-83 in Samokov to the lower-ranked (#5) Rilski. He had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 15 rebounds in 26 minutes. Olisemeka averaged so far 13.8ppg and 11.8rpg in 26 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and Italian.

   #6. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (12-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Abu's good performance KK Vrijednosnice Osijek was crushed 102-80 in Zagreb by the higher-ranked Cedevita (#4). He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Abu also added 5 rebounds. He averaged so far 14.6ppg, 9.1rpg and 1.5apg.

   #7. Moses Kingsley (208-F-94, college: Arkansas, currently plays in Belgium) contributed to a Antwerp Giants' victory against the closely-ranked Belfius Mons-Hainaut 76-70 in the Belgian Euromillions League on Saturday night. Kingsley scored 9 points, had 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 22 minutes. This year his overall stats are: 7.1ppg and 4.5rpg in 12 games. Kingsley holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #8. Christian Nwogbo (201-F-91, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Cedarville, currently plays in France) helped SPO Rouen win their game against the 14th-ranked Quimper UJAP 68-63 in the French ProB (second division) in Saturday night's game. He was the top player that evening. Nwogbo scored 19 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. He averaged so far 12.4ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.4spg. Nwogbo holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Chima Moneke (198-F-95, college: UC Davis, currently plays in France) couldn't help Denain Voltaire (10-19) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Denain Voltaire was edged 88-86 in Blois by the much higher-ranked (#8) ADA Blois. Moneke had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 42 minutes. Moneke averaged so far 14.6ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg in 22 games.

   #10. O.D. Anosike (203-F/C-91, agency: Alti Sport, college: Siena, currently plays in France) couldn't help Le Portel (12-19) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Anosike's very good performance Le Portel was edged 81-79 in Cholet by the leading Basket. He scored 15 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Anosike averaged so far 11.0ppg, 8.3rpg and 2.1apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

A total of thirty six teams will take part in the 2019 edition of Youth Alive Championship in three different categories. This was disclosed by Youth Alive coordinator, Gbade Olatona who gave the break down as comprising mixed UK with eight teams, eight teams will compete for honours in the U16 girls cadre while fourteen teams will jostle for honours in the U16 boys category.
