We bring you last week's top performances from Nigerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico). He could not help Fuerza Regia (14-6) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Akindele's very good performance the second-placed Fuerza Regia (14-6) was edged 114-111 on the road by the lower-ranked Panteras (#4) in the North group. He recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). It's Akindele's first season with the team. Akindele has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 20.1ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.8apg, 2FGP: 67.2%(129-192) and FT: 75.8%. Akindele is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

Michael Umeh

   #2. Second place goes to former international point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland). Umeh led Twarde Pierniki to a victory over the 12th-ranked GTK (4-6) 113-98 in the Polish EBL in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Umeh recorded 22 points and added 7 passes. Polski Cukier Torun (8-2) is placed third in the EBL. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Umeh has relatively good stats this year: 13.3ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.5apg. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Umeh played for the Nigerian national team in 2016.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Michael Efevberha (193-84, agency: Octagon Europe, college: CS Northridge, currently plays in Lebanon). He was the main contributor in Homentmen's victory against the closely-ranked Champville (4-2) 76-68 in the Lebanese LBL last Sunday. Efevberha was the best player in that game. He scored 27 points (!!!), grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 33 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Homentmen Beirut (4-1) is placed second in the LBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Efevberha has very impressive stats this year: 24.3ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.5apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 65.6%(21-32), 3FGP: 42.4% and FT: 76.5% in four games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Efevberha is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #4. Small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help Panathinaikos in their game against Armani Milano (7-7) in the Euroleague. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. Panathinaikos was edged 86-83 at home by the higher-ranked (#9) Armani Milano. Antetokounmpo's team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. This year Antetokounmpo's overall stats are: 4.8ppg and 1.4rpg in 13 games. He has both Nigerian and Greek nationalities. Antetokounmpo used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

Former international forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St., currently plays in EuroCup) contributed to an Unics Kazan's victory against the leader Deutsche Bank Skyliners 72-65 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group H. Unics Kazanis placed first. This year Ejim's total stats are: 3.0ppg and 2.0rpg in three games. He also holds two passports: Canadian and Nigerian. Ejim used to play for the Nigerian national team six years ago.

Power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Galil Gilboa (6-4) 88-70 in the Israeli Winner League in Monday night's game. He recorded 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Hapoel Eilat (7-3) is placed third in the Winner League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This season Braimoh has relatively solid stats: 12.3ppg, 6.2rpg and 2.0apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Braimoh is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team two years ago.

International forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the Toronto Raptors (24-9) 128-122 in the NBA on Friday night. He scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The Portland Trail Blazers have 18-13 record this season. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Aminu is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Trail Blazers' roster. Aminu has reliable stats this season: 9.2ppg and 8.0rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Despite Aminu played previously for the USA U19 national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

Forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan) was the major contributor in Gunma's victory against the fifth-ranked Bambitious Nara (6-17) 90-73 in the Japanese B2 League in Saturday night's game. Kuso had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 10 rebounds in 33 minutes. Gunma Crane Thunders (16-8) are placed second in East group. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Kuso has very impressive stats this year: 15.5ppg, 11.5rpg, 3.4apg, 2.3bpg and 1.3spg in 23 games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2007.

International center Augustine Okosun (209-86, college: Keiser, currently plays in Bulgaria) helped Yambol win their game against one of league's weakest teams Academic Sofia (2-7) crushing them 93-62 in the Bulgarian NBL in Friday night's game. Okosun was the top player that evening. He recorded 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. Tundja Yambol (3-6) is placed seventh in the NBL. It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses. Okosun has very impressive stats this year: 16.0ppg, 5.8rpg, 1.2bpg and 1.4spg in nine games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Okosun is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #10. Center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) helped Levallois win their game against the 15th-ranked Le Portel (3-10) 84-74 in the French ProA last Friday. He recorded 6 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Levallois Metropolitans (8-5) is placed eighth in the ProA. Ibekwe has averaged so far 5.0ppg and 4.1rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ibekwe is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Nigerian senior national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Japan) helped Shiga L-Stars win their game against the fifth-ranked Fukuoka Rizing 78-70 in the Japanese B League in Saturday night's game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 16 rebounds. Lawal also added 3 blocks. This season Lawal has very high stats. He averages: 20.2ppg, 11.9rpg, 1.8apg and 1.7bpg. Lawal holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team five years ago.

   #12. International power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to secure a victory for Atenas (5-3) in their last game. Despite Nwogbo's very good performance Atenas lost 108-115 on their home court in Carmen de Patagones to the second-ranked Estudiantes Olavarria in the South - South group. He was the top scorer with 33 points. Nwogbo also added 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in 43 minutes. Nwogbo has very impressive stats this year: 16.5ppg, 8.2rpg and 1.2bpg in 16 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwogbo is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #13. International power forward Alade Aminu (207-87, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Israel) couldn't help Hapoel Tel-Aviv (3-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his good performance Hapoel Tel-Aviv was defeated 90-76 in Nahariya by the one of league's weakest teams Ironi (#11). Aminu recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. Aminu's stats this season are: 11.7ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.2bpg. He is also Nigerian national team player.

   #14. Former international forward Andy Ogide (204-87, agency: HMS, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Italy) couldn't help UCC Piacenza in their game against Extralight MNT in the Italian Serie A2 (second division). Despite his very good performance in Sunday night's game Ogide recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season Ogide has very high stats. He averages: 16.8ppg and 7.3rpg. Ogide used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

   #15. Former U22 international power forward Dinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., currently plays in France) helped Sluc Nancy win their game against the 15th-ranked C'Chartres 95-77 in the French ProB (second division) in Tuesday night's game. He recorded 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 26 minutes. Odiakosa has averaged so far 7.4ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.2apg in 10 games. He used to play for the Nigerian U22 national team fourteen years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers (8-24) 114-102 in the NBA in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo had a double-double by scoring 44 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 8 assists and 2 blocks in 38 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid 21-9 record this season. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. Antetokounmpo has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 26.7ppg, 13.0rpg, 6.1apg, 1.3bpg and 1.3spg in 28 games he played so far. Antetokounmpo has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Victor Oladipo (193-G-92, college: Indiana, currently plays in NBA) was the main contributor in an Indiana Pacers' victory against the New York Knicks (9-24) 110-99 in the NBA on Sunday night. He was MVP of the game. Oladipo recorded 26 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals in 36 minutes. The Indiana Pacers have a solid 20-12 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Oladipo has very impressive stats this year: 20.3ppg, 6.3rpg, 5.0apg and 1.6spg in 21 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: Florida St., currently plays in EuroCup) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Galatasaray 100-83 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Ojo recorded 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beogradis placed fourth in group G. Ojo's overall stats this season are: 7.3ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.3bpg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Chukwudiebere Maduabum (206-F-91, currently plays in Japan) contributed to Yamagata's victory against the sixth-ranked Tokyo HT (3-21) 98-93 in the Japanese B2 League last Sunday. He was the top player that evening. Maduabum recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. Pass lab Yamagata Wyverns (12-12) are placed fourth in East group. This season Maduabum has relatively solid stats: 13.6ppg, 8.7rpg, 1.3apg and 2.2bpg.

   #5. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Euroleague) could not help Darussafaka (1-13) in their last game. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Darussafaka lost 67-75 on the road to the higher-ranked (#11) Panathinaikos. Eric had a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds in 27 minutes. It was Darussafaka's ninth consecutive loss in a row. His team will play only one more game in the Euroleague Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Eric has reliable stats this year: 13.0ppg and 6.1rpg in 14 games.

   #6. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to help KK Vrijednosnice Osijek in their game against Alkar in the Croatian Premijer Liga. Despite his very good performance last Saturday Abu was the second best scorer with 14 points. He also added 6 rebounds. This season Abu has very high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.3apg.

   #7. Josh Okogie (193-G-98, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Sacramento Kings crushing them 132-105 in the NBA on Monday night. Okogie scored 10 points and added 3 passes in 28 minutes. Okogie has averaged so far 6.7ppg and 3.0rpg in 23 games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Despite Okogie's Nigerian passport, he currently plays for the USA U19 national team and is not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #8. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) was not able to secure a victory for MIA-RO Cantu in their game against Germani BR in the Italian Serie A. Despite his good performance in Sunday night's game Udanoh recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 4 assists. Udanoh's stats this season are: 13.8ppg, 10.2rpg, 3.8apg and 2.2spg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #9. Christian Nwogbo (190-F-91, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Cedarville, currently plays in France) couldn't help SPO Rouen in their game against Sluc Nancy in the French ProB (second division), despite his very good performance last Saturday. Nwogbo was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 8 rebounds in 26 minutes. But his team lost 73-81. Nwogbo has averaged so far 9.5ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.3apg in 10 games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #10. Peter Olisemeka (204-C-91, currently plays in Balkan League) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Teuta 89-73 in the Balkan League on Thursday night. Olisemeka recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting the same number of rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. Olisemeka's stats this season are: 13.0ppg, 11.6rpg and 1.1apg. He has Nigerian and Italian nationalities.
