Here is the weekly review of the top performing Nigerian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico). He was the major contributor in a Fuerza Regia's victory against the seventh-ranked Angeles (3-13) crushing them 90-65 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Sunday. Akindele recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 14 rebounds. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (11-5) is placed second in North group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Akindele has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.1ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 69.1%(96-139) and FT: 73.0%. Akindele is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan). He led Gunma to a victory against the third-ranked Earthfriends Tokyo Z (8-11) 88-75 in the Japanese B2 League on Saturday night. Kuso had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 8 assists and 2 blocks in 34 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. Gunma Crane Thunders (11-8) are placed third. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Kuso's first season with the team. Kuso has very impressive stats this year: 15.2ppg, 11.7rpg, 3.2apg, 2.4bpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 48.3% and FT: 68.9% in 18 games he played so far. He played for the Nigerian national team in 2007.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). Okoye contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Joventut (4-5) crushing them 112-66 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. He recorded 11 points in 20 minutes. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (6-4) is placed fifth in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Okoye has relatively good stats this year: 11.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 2FGP: 45.0%, 3FGP: 44.4% and FT: 57.1% in eight games. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Okoye is also a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #4. Forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA) could not help the Portland Trail Blazers (13-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (13-8) were crushed 125-97 on the road by the Golden State Warriors. Aminu scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Aminu is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Trail Blazers' roster. This season he has relatively solid stats: 8.0ppg and 8.0rpg. Aminu is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite he played previously for the USA U19 national team, Aminu is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

Former international power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice, currently plays in Israel) contributed to a Hapoel Eilat's victory against one of league's weakest teams Ironi Nahariya (2-6) 77-71 in the Israeli Winner League in Saturday night's game. Braimoh scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Hapoel Eilat (5-3) is placed fifth in the Winner League. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Braimoh has reliable stats this season: 12.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3bpg. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Braimoh used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

   #6. Guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) helped JDA Dijon win their game against the 15th-ranked Limoges CSP Elite (4-7) 79-67 in the French ProA on Saturday night. Emegano scored 8 points in 20 minutes. JDA Dijon Bourgogne (7-4) is placed third in the ProA. This year Emegano's overall stats are: 8.6ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.1spg in 11 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

Former international power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Japan) was not able to help Shiga L-Stars in their game against Hitachi Sunrockers (8-11) in the Japanese B League. Despite his very good performance on Saturday night Lawal recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 2 blocks. This season Lawal has very high stats. He averages: 20.4ppg, 11.8rpg, 1.8apg and 1.6bpg. Lawal also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. He used to play for the Nigerian national team five years ago.

Forward Andy Ogide (204-87, agency: HMS, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Italy) led UCC Piacenza to a victory over the 16th-ranked Cagliari DA (1-8) crushing them 93-64 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) last Saturday. Ogide was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 11 rebounds in 26 minutes. UCC Assigeco Piacenza (4-5) is placed ninth in East group. Ogide has very impressive stats this year: 16.4ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.1spg in nine games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

Former international point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, currently plays in Poland) was not able to secure a victory for Twarde Pierniki (6-2) in their game against MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (5-4) in the Polish EBL. Umeh scored 5 points. Twarde Pierniki was defeated 93-84 in Dabrowa Gornicza by the lower-ranked MKS Dabrowa Gornicza (#8). Umeh's total stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.5apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Umeh used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

   #10. Forward Jordan Nwora (203-98, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Louisville in their game against the Marquette University in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance on Friday night He scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). This season Nwora has very high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg and 7.3rpg. Nwora holds both American and Nigerian passports. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. International center Augustine Okosun (209-86, college: Keiser, currently plays in Bulgaria) couldn't help Yambol in their game against Academik Plovdiv in the Bulgarian NBL, despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Okosun was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 4 boards, handed out 3 passes and blocked 2 shots in 24 minutes. But his team was crushed by 29 points 113-84. Okosun's stats this year are: 15.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.1spg in seven games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Okosun plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. International power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood, currently plays in Argentina) was the main contributor in Atenas' victory against the third-ranked Centro Espanol Plottier 84-72 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) in Saturday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Nwogbo recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds. Nwogbo averaged so far 14.8ppg, 7.9rpg and 1.1bpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwogbo is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #13. International guard Caleb Agada (193-94, agency: Blacktop Management, college: Ottawa, currently plays in Spain) helped Melilla Baloncesto win their game against one of league's weakest teams Leyma Basquet 76-72 in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division) last Friday. He scored 11 points, had 8 boards, passed 3 assists and added 5 steals in 21 minutes. Agada averaged so far 10.9ppg, 5.7rpg, 1.9apg and 2.9spg in seven games. Despite he played previously for the Canadian university national team, Agada is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #14. International shooting guard Ikenna Mbamalu (191-91, college: La-Lafayette, currently plays in Chile) helped Aleman win their game against the fifth-ranked AB Ancud 96-82 in the Chilean Liga Nacional on Saturday night. He was the top player that evening. Mbamalu scored 35 points (!!!) and grabbed 6 rebounds. This season Mbamalu has very high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.7apg and 1.2spg. Mbamalu holds both American and Nigerian passports. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team. Mbamalu used to play for Lagos Warriors in Nigerian league.

   #15. Former international center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) couldn't help Levallois in their game against Provence Basket in the French ProA. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Ibekwe scored only one point. His team was defeated 90-81. Ibekwe's total stats this season are: 5.3ppg and 3.8rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ibekwe used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) led Milwaukee Bucks to a victory over the San Antonio Spurs (10-11) 135-129 in the NBA in Saturday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Antetokounmpo had a double-double by scoring 34 points and getting 18 rebounds. He also added 8 assists in 39 minutes. The Milwaukee Bucks have a solid 15-6 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. Antetokounmpo has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 27.3ppg, 12.9rpg, 6.0apg, 1.3bpg and 1.5spg in 20 games he played so far. Antetokounmpo has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to a 3-point Darussafaka's victory against one of league's weakest teams Afyon Bld (2-5) 96-93 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Eric scored 19 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Darussafaka Istanbul (7-1) is placed third in the BSL. Eric has relatively good stats this season: 13.9ppg and 5.4rpg.

   #3. Tonye Jekiri (213-C-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) could not help Gaziantep (3-4) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Gaziantep lost 81-88 on the road to the leading Anadolu Efes. Jekiri was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Jekiri's third season in pro basketball. Jekiri has relatively good stats this year: 10.1ppg, 9.4rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg in eight games.

   #4. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help MIA-RO Cantu (3-5) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance MIA-RO Cantu was badly defeated 102-82 in Trieste by the higher-ranked Alma TR (#9). Udanoh scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Udanoh has relatively good stats this year: 14.1ppg, 10.0rpg, 4.0apg and 2.1spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #5. Chris Otule (211-C-90, college: Marquette, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Cholet Basket (2-9) 91-74 in the French ProA on Monday night. He scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 blocks in 24 minutes. Sharks Antibes (2-9) is placed 15th in the ProA. Otule has reliable stats this year: 11.3ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.7bpg in three games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #6. Josh Okogie (193-G-98, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the San Antonio Spurs crushing them 128-89 in the NBA last Wednesday. He recorded 12 points in only a mere 10 minutes. Okogie's stats this year are: 7.8ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.1apg in 16 games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Okogie's Nigerian nationality, he currently plays for the USA U19 national team and is not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #7. Peter Olisemeka (204-C-91, currently plays in Bulgaria) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Yambol crushing them 113-84 in the Bulgarian NBL on Saturday night. Olisemeka recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. Olisemeka's stats this season are: 12.0ppg, 13.1rpg, 1.1apg, 1.4bpg and 1.3spg. He has Nigerian and Italian nationalities.

   #8. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to secure a victory for KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (4-4) in their last game. Despite Abu's very good performance KK Vrijednosnice Osijek lost 69-84 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#6) KK_Zabok. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Abu also added 6 rebounds in 30 minutes. Abu has very impressive stats this year: 15.9ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.5apg in eight games.

   #9. Etinosa Erevbenagie (186-G-95, currently plays in Greece) couldn't help Kavala (1-6) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance Kavala was edged 79-77 in Larissa by the much higher-ranked Ermis Agias (#3). Erevbenagie was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 6 assists. Erevbenagie's stats this season are: 11.1ppg, 3.7rpg, 3.0apg and 1.3spg. He holds both Nigerian and Greek passports.

   #10. O.D. Anosike (203-F/C-91, agency: Alti Sport, college: Siena, currently plays in France) couldn't help Le Portel (4-7) in their last game on Friday. Despite Anosike's good performance Le Portel was defeated 89-84 in Bourg by the much higher-ranked JL Bourg (#4). He scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Anosike's total stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 9.0rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.
