Here is the weekly review of the top performing Nigerian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, agency: BeoBasket, college: Chicago St., currently plays in Mexico). He led Fuerza Regia to a victory over the fifth-ranked Santos (2-4) 83-79 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Wednesday. Akindele was MVP of the game. He recorded 31 points (!!!) and grabbed 9 rebounds. Fuerza Regia Monterrey (6-2) is placed second in North group. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Akindele has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 20.7ppg, 8.7rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 73.3%(44-60) and FT: 76.6%. Akindele is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Al-Farouq Aminu (206-90, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in NBA). He contributed to a Portland Trail Blazers' victory against the New Orleans Pelicans (4-4) 132-119 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. Aminu had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds in 33 minutes. The Portland Trail Blazers have a solid 6-2 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Aminu's fourth year with the team. He has relatively good stats this season: 8.8ppg, 8.8rpg, 3FGP: 27.6% and FT: 88.9% in eight games he played so far. Aminu has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Despite he played previously for the USA U19 national team, Aminu is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan). Kuso was the major contributor in Gunma's victory against the second-ranked Cyberdyne IR (7-4) 78-61 in the Japanese B2 League on Sunday night. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 14 rebounds. Kuso also added 3 blocks and 3 steals in 33 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. Gunma Crane Thunders (6-5) are placed third. This year Kuso has relatively solid stats: 14.1ppg, 11.5rpg, 2.5apg, 2.1bpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 45.5% and FT: 71.7% in 11 games. He played for the Nigerian national team eleven years ago.

   #4. Power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) could not help Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (3-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance the third-placed Baloncesto Fuenlabrada (3-1) was crushed 105-75 on the road by the leading Hapoel Jerusalem in the group C of Basketball Champions League. Zanna was the second best scorer with 10 points in 18 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. It's Zanna's first season with the team. He has reliable stats this year: 12.0ppg and 5.8rpg in four games. Zanna is also Nigerian national team player.

International guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in France) was the main contributor in a JDA Dijon's victory against the league outsider Olympique Antibes (0-7) crushing them 84-55 in the French ProA on Saturday night. He was the best player in that game. Emegano recorded 17 points, 4 assists and 3 steals; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. JDA Dijon Bourgogne (5-2) is placed second in the ProA. Emegano's overall stats this season are: 9.9ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.1apg and 1.3spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and British. Emegano plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

Small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens to win against the league outsider Buducnost (0-5) 72-67 in the Euroleague last Friday. Antetokounmpo scored 5 points. Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens (3-2) is placed fifth in the Euroleague. Antetokounmpo's overall stats this season are: 5.8ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.6spg. He is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team two years ago.

Former international center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) helped Levallois edge the closely-ranked JL Bourg (4-3) 80-78 in the French ProA on Monday night. Ibekwe recorded 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in only 13 minutes. Levallois Metropolitans (5-2) is placed third in the ProA. This year Ibekwe's overall stats are: 6.3ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.3spg in four games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Ibekwe used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

Despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game He was the top scorer with 18 points. Omogbo also added 4 rebounds. This season Omogbo has very high stats. He averages: 16.4ppg, 6.0rpg and 2.4spg. Omogbo also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

Former international power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Shiga L-Stars (2-8) in their game against Aishin Sea Horses (5-5) in the Japanese B League. Despite his very good performance on Monday night Lawal recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 4 assists. This season Lawal has very high stats. He averages: 18.9ppg, 12.3rpg, 2.2apg and 1.6bpg. Lawal holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team five years ago.

He scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes. Science City Jena (2-2) is placed ninth in the BBL. Iroegbu's stats this year are: 10.8ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.0apg in four games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) couldn't help EnBW Ludwigsburg in their game against Anwil in the Basketball Champions League. Mbakwe recorded 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. His team was defeated 93-85. Mbakwe's total stats this season are: 4.7ppg, 5.3rpg and 1.7apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Despite Mbakwe played previously for the USA university national team, he is currently in the Nigerian national team roster.

   #12. International power forward Lotanna Nwogbo (203-93, college: Longwood, currently plays in Argentina) helped Atenas win their game against the fifth-ranked Petrolero 70-65 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) on Tuesday night. Nwogbo was the top player that evening. He had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 13 rebounds. Nwogbo also added 2 blocks in 25 minutes. Nwogbo averaged so far 13.3ppg and 7.3rpg in three games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Nwogbo is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.

   #13. Former international small forward Jamal Olasewere (201-91, agency: HMS, college: LIU Brooklyn, currently plays in Italy) helped Remer TVG win their game against the seventh-ranked Bergamo Bsk 85-81 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) in Thursday night's game. He recorded 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Olasewere averaged so far 13.4ppg, 3.4rpg and 1.8spg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Olasewere used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

   #14. Former U22 international power forward Dinma Odiakosa (203-85, college: Illinois St., currently plays in France) couldn't help Sluc Nancy in their game against ALM Evreux in the French ProB (second division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 16 minutes. His team lost 70-74. This year Odiakosa's total stats are: 8.7ppg, 8.3rpg and 1.7apg in three games. He used to play for the Nigerian U22 national team back in 2004.

   #15. International point guard Braxton Ogbueze (185-93, college: Charlotte, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Leyma Basquet in their game against RETAbet BB in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Despite his very good performance in Friday night's game Ogbueze was the top scorer with 16 points. Ogbueze averaged so far 10.2ppg and 1.2rpg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ogbueze is also in the roster of the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Giannis Antetokounmpo (211-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in NBA) could not help the Milwaukee Bucks (7-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Milwaukee Bucks (7-1) lost 113-117 on the road to the Boston Celtics. Antetokounmpo had a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 11 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals in 36 minutes. It was Bucks' first loss after seven consecutive victories. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Antetokounmpo's sixth year with the team. Antetokounmpo has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 26.1ppg, 13.7rpg, 5.1apg and 1.4bpg in seven games he played so far. Antetokounmpo has a dual citizenship: Greek and Nigerian.

   #2. Victor Oladipo (193-G-92, college: Indiana, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in an Indiana Pacers' victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers (1-7) 119-107 in the NBA on Saturday night. He scored 24 points, made 6 passes and 3 steals in 37 minutes. The Indiana Pacers have a solid 5-3 record this season. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Oladipo has very impressive stats this year: 22.0ppg, 5.9rpg, 4.4apg and 1.5spg in eight games. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) led KK Vrijednosnice Osijek to a victory against the league outsider Bosco (0-4) 93-84 in the Croatian Premijer Liga in Saturday night's game. Abu recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 3 assists; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Abu's first season in pro basketball. KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (3-1) is placed third in the Premijer Liga. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. It's Abu's first year with the team. This season he has very high stats. Abu averages: 15.8ppg, 9.0rpg and 1.8apg.

   #4. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, also represented by Octagon Europe, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a MIA-RO Cantu's victory against the 14th-ranked Grissin Bon RE (1-3) 101-95 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. He recorded 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists in 38 minutes. MIA-Red October Cantu (3-1) is placed third in the Serie A. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Udanoh's first season with the team. Udanoh has relatively good stats this year: 13.0ppg, 9.3rpg, 5.0apg and 2.0spg in four games. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #5. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to help Darussafaka (1-4) in their last game on Friday. Despite Eric's very good performance Darussafaka was defeated 79-71 at home by the higher-ranked FC Barcelona (#8). He was the top scorer with 17 points. Eric also added 9 rebounds. Eric has relatively good stats this season: 12.4ppg, 7.6rpg and 1.2bpg.

   #6. Josh Okogie (193-G-98, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in NBA) helped Minnesota Timberwolves win their game against the Los Angeles Lakers 124-120 in the NBA last Monday. He scored 17 points, grabbed 4 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 3 balls. This season Okogie has relatively solid stats: 9.8ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.7spg. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Okogie's Nigerian nationality, he currently plays for the USA U19 national team and is not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #7. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: Florida St., currently plays in EuroCup) helped his Serbian team Crvena Zvezda win their game against the third-ranked Galatasaray crushing them 87-57 in the Eurocup in Tuesday night's game. He scored 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Ojo's overall stats this season are: 7.6ppg and 5.0rpg. Worth to mention Ojo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #8. Danny Agbelese (206-F/C-90, another player represented by Octagon Europe, college: Hampton, currently plays in Greece) helped Holargos win their game against the tenth-ranked PAOK 74-68 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. He recorded 7 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks in 27 minutes. This year Agbelese's overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.8bpg in four games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #9. Semi Ojeleye (201-F-94, college: SMU, currently plays in NBA) faced previously mentioned Giannis Antetokounmpo in the NBA last game. Ojeleye helped Boston Celtics win their game against the Milwaukee Bucks 117-113. He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 22 minutes. This year Ojeleye's total stats are: 2.2ppg and 1.3rpg in six games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports.

   #10. Tonye Jekiri (213-C-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) was not able to secure a victory for Gaziantep in their game against Fenerbahce in the Turkish BSL. Jekiri recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 29 minutes. His team lost 55-67. Jekiri's stats this year are: 11.0ppg, 10.0rpg and 1.3apg in four games.
