We bring you last week's top performances from Nigerians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international power forward Talib Zanna (206-90, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He was the major contributor in a 1-point Baloncesto Fuenlabrada's victory against the seventh-ranked Brose Baskets (0-1) 89-88 in the Basketball Champions League in Wednesday night's game. Zanna had a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds in 28 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada this season. His team is placed first in group C. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Zanna is currently a member of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI, currently plays in Spain). He led Zaragoza to a victory against the 11th-ranked Burgos (1-2) 93-79 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Saturday night's game. Okoye scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (2-1) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Okoye has relatively good stats this season: 13.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 2FGP: 52.6%, 3FGP: 33.3%. He has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American. Okoye is in the roster of the Nigerian senior national team.

   #3. The Nigerian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international small forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo (199-92, currently plays in Euroleague). Antetokounmpo contributed to Panathinaikos' victory against the 12th-ranked Maccabi T-A (0-1) 89-84 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. He recorded 10 points. It was his first game for Panathinaikos this season. His team closes the standings in the Euroleague. Antetokounmpo is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and Greek. He played for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

An experienced center Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (207-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) contributed to a 3-point Levallois' victory against the closely-ranked Gravelines-Dunkerque (4-0) 86-83 in the French ProA in Monday night's game. Ibekwe recorded 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in a mere 18 minutes. It was his first game for Levallois this season. His team is placed fifth in the ProA. It's Ibekwe's first year with the team. He has both American and Nigerian nationalities. Ibekwe used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

International guard Obi Emegano (190-93, college: ORU, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) contributed to a JDA Dijon's victory against the eighth-ranked CEZ Nymburk (0-1) 74-63 in the Basketball Champions League on Tuesday night. Emegano recorded 9 points in 28 minutes. It was his first game for JDA Dijon this season. His team is placed third in group C. Emegano also holds two passports: Nigerian and British. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #6. Power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Japan) could not help Shiga L-Stars (1-1) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the fifth-placed Shiga L-Stars (1-1) lost 73-78 at home to the higher-ranked (#3) Niigata Albirex in the West group. Lawal had a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. Lawal has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 21.5ppg, 12.5rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0bpg in two games he played so far. Lawal holds both American and Nigerian passports. He is a former international player as he played for the Nigerian senior team five years ago.

Former international power forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, agency: Pensack Sports, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) was not able to help EnBW Ludwigsburg in their game against Banvit (1-0) in the Basketball Champions League. Mbakwe recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for EnBW Ludwigsburg this season. EnBW Ludwigsburg (#28) was defeated 89-76 on the road by the higher-ranked Banvit (#24) in the group A of Basketball Champions League. Mbakwe holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

It was his first game for Yambol this season. Okosun holds both American and Nigerian passports. He plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

Former international forward Abdullahi Kuso (206-84, college: Tallahassee CC, currently plays in Japan) helped Gunma win their game against the third-ranked Earthfriends Tokyo Z (2-2) 81-66 in the Japanese B2 League on Saturday night. Kuso scored 7 points, had 11 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 21 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. Gunma Crane Thunders (3-1) are placed second. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Kuso has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg, 8.8rpg, 2.3apg, 2.0bpg and 1.3spg in four games. He used to play for the Nigerian national team eleven years ago.

Power forward Alade Aminu (207-87, college: Georgia Tech, currently plays in Israel) helped Hapoel Tel-Aviv win their game against the ninth-ranked Hapoel Eilat (0-1) 100-81 in the Israeli Winner League in Saturday night's game. Aminu recorded 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. It was his first game for Hapoel Tel-Aviv this season. His team is placed third in the Winner League. Aminu is an international player who is currently on the senior Nigerian National Team roster.

   #11. International forward Emmanuel Omogbo (203-95, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Lithuania) couldn't help P.Zvaigzdes in their game against Dzukija in the Lithuanian LKL. Omogbo was the second best scorer with 8 points. He also added 6 rebounds in 19 minutes. His team lost 60-74. Omogbo has reliable stats this year: 14.0ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.8spg in five games. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Omogbo plays currently for the Nigerian national team.

   #12. Former international forward Andy Ogide (204-87, agency: HMS, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Italy) couldn't help UCC Piacenza (0-1) in their last game. Despite his good performance UCC Piacenza (#16) was edged 80-79 on their home court in Casalpusterlengo by the much higher-ranked (#7) Orasi RAV in the East group. Ogide recorded 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 37 minutes. It was his first game for UCC Piacenza this season. Ogide used to play for the Nigerian national team back in 2016.

   #13. Former international small forward Jamal Olasewere (201-91, also represented by HMS, college: LIU Brooklyn, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Remer TVG in their game against FCL Contract LG in the Italian Serie A2 (second division), despite his good performance on Sunday night. He recorded 10 points in only 14 minutes. It was his first game for Remer TVG this season. But his team lost 68-78. Olasewere holds both American and Nigerian passports. He used to play for the Nigerian national team two years ago.

   #14. International point guard Braxton Ogbueze (185-93, college: Charlotte, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Leyma Basquet in their game against Real Betis in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Ogbueze scored only 4 points and added 3 passes. His team was defeated 96-88. Ogbueze's overall stats this season are: 4.5ppg and 1.5apg. He holds both American and Nigerian passports. Ogbueze plays currently for the Nigerian national team.


The list of other players, who all have Nigerian passport but never been selected to any of Nigerian national teams:

   #1. Tonye Jekiri (213-C-94, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey) was the major contributor in Gaziantep's victory against the 12th-ranked Darussafaka (0-1) 63-62 in the Turkish BSL last Saturday. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was his first game for Gaziantep this season. His team is placed fifth in the BSL. But the season just started, so everything may happen.

   #2. Chinemelu Elonu (206-F/C-87, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Grissin Bon RE's victory against the tenth-ranked Banco di Srd (0-1) 85-77 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Elonu recorded 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 22 minutes. It was his first game for Grissin Bon RE this season. His team is placed second in the Serie A. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Elonu has a dual citizenship: Nigerian and American.

   #3. Michael Ojo (216-C-93, college: Florida St., currently plays in ABA League) led his Serbian team Crvena Zvezda to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Buducnost (1-1) 87-71 in the ABA League last Sunday. Ojo scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a mere 15 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (2-0) is placed first in the ABA League. It's Ojo's first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg and 5.5rpg in two games he played so far. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Rasheed Sulaimon (193-G-94, college: Maryland, currently plays in France) helped Levallois win their game against the closely-ranked Gravelines-Dunkerque (4-0) 86-83 in the French ProA last Monday. He recorded 10 points and added 3 passes. Levallois Metropolitans (3-1) is placed fifth in the ProA. It's Sulaimon's first season with the team. This year Sulaimon averages: 9.0ppg, 3.5rpg and 4.8apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Nigerian and American. Despite Sulaimon's Nigerian nationality, he previously played for the USA U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Nigerian team.

   #5. Ike Joseph Udanoh (203-PF-89, agency: Octagon Europe, college: Wayne St., MI, currently plays in Italy) could not help MIA-RO Cantu (0-1) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Udanoh's very good performance MIA-RO Cantu was badly defeated 98-81 on the road by the much higher-ranked Sidigas AV (#4). He was the top scorer with 19 points. Udanoh also added 7 rebounds and 5 assists. It was his first game for MIA-RO Cantu this season. Udanoh has both American and Nigerian nationalities.

   #6. Abdul-Malik Abu (203-F-95, college: NC State, currently plays in Croatia) was not able to help KK Vrijednosnice Osijek (0-1) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Abu's very good performance KK Vrijednosnice Osijek was crushed 82-59 in Zagreb by the second-ranked Cedevita. He was the top scorer with 22 points. Abu also added 8 rebounds. It was his first game for KK Vrijednosnice Osijek this season.

   #7. Chukwudiebere Maduabum (206-F-91, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Yamagata in their game against Shimane Magic in the Japanese B2 League. Maduabum recorded 8 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. It was his first game for Yamagata this season. His team were defeated 73-68.

   #8. Ike Okoye (206-F/C-86, college: Boise St., currently plays in Panama) led Caballos to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Aguilas crushing them 94-72 in the Panamanian LPB last Saturday. Okoye was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. Okoye has reliable stats this year: 14.6ppg, 10.1rpg, 1.6apg and 1.2spg in nine games. He also holds two passports: Nigerian and American.

   #9. Micheal Eric (210-C-88, college: Temple, currently plays in Turkey) faced previously mentioned Tonye Jekiri in the Turkish BSL last game. Eric couldn't help Darussafaka in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Darussafaka was edged 63-62 at home by the lower-ranked Gaziantep (#5). Eric recorded 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. It was his first game for Darussafaka this season.

   #10. Adebayo Adeniyi (211-F/C-91, currently plays in United Kingdom) was the main contributor in Crusaders' victory against the ninth-ranked London Leopards 84-77 in the British NBL D1 (second division) last Saturday. He was MVP of the game. Adeniyi recorded 35 points (!!!) and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Crusaders this season.
