First Bank claim sixth title beat Dolphins 65-51 in final - Jun 22, 2014
After missing out of the title for four straight seasons dominated by First Deepwater basketball club, First Bank basketball club Saturday return to winning ways with a 65-51 points victory over hard fighting Dolphins basketball club to win its sixth Zenith Bank Women League title out of ten editions of the league.
The epic final which drew a large crowd saw First Bank winning the first, third and fourth quarters (16-13, 16-10 and 14-08) while losing the second quarter by one point (19-20) to claim the top spot of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF organized Zenith Bank league.
First Bank duo of Nkem Akaraiwe and Oluchi Nzekwe recorded (15 points, 9 rebounds) and 10 points respectively.
Former champion First Deepwater basketball club claim the third spot with a 96-45 points win over FCT Angels basketball club.
First Bank forward Chioma Udeaja was voted the league most valuable player (MVP), the duo of Dolphins basketball club Bintu Badmus and Amaka Nwakama claimed the league top rebound and highest scorer award, while the league Top-5 players went to Upe Atosu (First Deepwater), Patience Okpe (Dolphins), Nkechi Akashili (First Deepwater), Chioma Udeaja (First Bank) and Amaka Nwakama (Dolphins). FCT Angels won the fair-play trophy
