ZBWBL: First Bank crash to Dolphins - Jun 13, 2013

Basketball history was rewritten Thursday in the second semi-finals of the 2012/2013 season of the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League when former champion First Bank basketball club crashed like-a-pack of cards to Dolphins basketball club by 64-72 points in an explosive game at the sports hall of the national stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Trouble began for the Elephant Girls as the bankers are also known took a narrow seven points lead into the break with 36-29 points but could not curtail the pace of the Dolphins players who ring-round the First Bank side forcing them to commit series of turn-overs thus surrendering to the Wale Aboderin owned Dolphins in the third and fourth quarters (11-23, 17-27).

The win by Dolphins sent the entire stadium into wide jubilation as many hailed the victory and applauded the new format introduced by the Nigeria Basketball Federation the final-8 playoffs.

Babatunde Babalola congratulated Dolphins basketball club for making history of qualifying for the grand finale after several attempts in the past and booking a continental ticket as the semi-final lose means First Bank will not partake of a continental outing this year.
