This Sunday, we had an unusual match for the Mauritus basket - ball as the USA Marines played a match against the new Mauritius Basket - Ball Team at the Phoenix Gymnasium. The gym was crowded with fans and the presence of the Minister of Sports too was there.
After the usual opening ceremony, the match was ready to start and people were impatient not only to see the Americans play but also, to observe the level of the National Team who are busy preparing themselves for the next Indian Ocean Games next year in Madagascar.
The Mauritian team took a great start on the match with a quick flow game that took the Americans by surprise and at the end of the first half, the Mauritius Team was leading on the score of 22 to 8. But in the second quarter, the Mauritius Team began to deconcentrate themselves and the Americans began to settle in the game and try to catch the lead. At half time, the score was 30 to 14 for the Mauritius team.
In the second half, the game was more interesting with the Americans playing a better basket to match up with the Home Team and an exchanges of baskets took place. But the Mauritius Team was a better that day than the Marines and also much better prepared and it was finally, no surprise that the Mauritius Team won the match on the score of 79 to 48.
But over this win, what was most important was that the game took place in a good and friendly athmosphere between these 2 Teams and also, within the Mauritius Team which shows that these players is ready to put away their club rivality and play for the good of the country and also, for the good of Mauritius Basket - Ball, which has proved, that under the supervision of Faida Antoine de Padoue and Jean - Michel Seneque, this team has a great potential and can aim a good performance at the Island Games next Year.
