The "Coupe des Club Champions de L'ocean Indien" Tournament, which took place from the 22 - 29 of April 2006, in Mayotte, was a really exciting tournament both for the boys and the Girls. Mauritius was represented by the Hoop Team in the Women tournament and it should be said that the Team really did a great tournament, exceeding the expectation of everyone in the country as they have end up Vice Champions of the Indian Ocean, only being beaten by the Malagasy team in the finals.
1. Hoop (Mauritius) v/s Tampon (Reunion)
On the first game, it could be see that the mauritius players and coach was tense as there has always been a great rivalry between Mauritius and Reunion in basket - ball. Never before, had a Mauritian team beat the Reunion team in this tournament, but this time, the Hoop did it!!! Since the beginning of the game, the girls of Hoop played a high fast pace game with great intensities on defense and even though the Reunion girls kept in the game for the first 3 quarters, the Hoop, being better physically, killed the game in the last quarter and made a historical win over the Reunion girls and began the tournament well. The final score: 59 to 51 for the Hoop.
2. Hoop (Mauritius) v/s BCM (Mayotte)
For the second game, even though the Hoop were the favourites, they had to keep their concentration focus on the match as it was a place in the final that was involve and the bcm played a good game against the Reunion team. And, keeping their fast pace game, the Hoop won the match on the score of 79 to 61 and won a place in the final against the Malagasy team who were the favourites of the Tournament. The final score: 79 to 61 for the Hoop.
3. Hoop (Mauritius) v/s Sotrata (Madagascar)
This was the final and you could see the tension and stress on the players faces. Making a strong start, 16 - 0, the madagascar team over took the game from the Mauritian and we were all afraid of a one way final for the madagascar but this was not to be for the courageous mauritian girls who took over themselves and got back into the game by only losing the second quarter by 2 points. Since then, the game was an interesting one to watch and even though the sotrata team won the 3rd quarter, they lost the 4th one. Finally, the Madagacar team won the final on the score of 72 to 48, but it should be said that the score does not reflect the game as if the Mauritian team, with a little bit of more experience, have well started the game, it would have been something else.
So, to conclude, on the name of eurobasket, I would like to congratulate the Hoop team for the magnificent and historical performance in this tournament as never before have a Mauritian women team done as good as them and it should be say that theu merit it.
