Mozambique claimed the second win at the AfroBasket 2009. They coasted past Mauritius to improve at 2-1 record in Group A. Mauritius are still looking for the initial win at the inaugural African championship. Mozambique dominated every aspect of the encounter as four players scored in double figures. Filomena Micato (86) finished with 25 points to pace the winners.
Mozambique held their opponents to just 7 points in the starting frame to build a 10-point lead at the first break. The second quarter turned into a one-way traffic. Mozambique accounted for improbable 47 points to enjoy a massive 51-point lead at halftime. Things hardly changed after the main break. Mozambique kept on dominating as they headed into the fourth stanza up by unassailable 68 points. They just sealed the win in the fourth quarter. Ana Azinheira (156-G-80) delivered 19 points in the win. Ana Branquinho (185-C-77) contributed 18 points for Mozambique. Isabelle Nemorin answered with 9 points and 8 rebounds for Mauritius. Corinne Somauroo had 6 points and 6 rebounds in defeat.
