Mauritania is preparing for the Zone II basketball tournament of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa, to be held from 15 to 20 May in the Malian capital, Bamako.
Coaching duo Abdoulaye Ly and Abdoul Ba have pre-selected 20 players for the event, which groups hosts Mali, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Senegal.
The winners of the competition will qualify for the African Championship to be held next September in Tripoli, Libya.
Cape Verde, also in Zone II, have already qualified for the continental event.
Five professionals playing in Senegal, Morocco and France are expected to join the Mauritanian camp in the next few days before the final list of 12 players is a nnounced.
