We bring you last week's top performances from Malians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former U16 international power forward Cheick Diallo (206-96, college: Kansas, currently plays in NBA). He led New Orleans Pelicans to a victory against the Phoenix Suns (15-51) 130-116 in the NBA in Friday night's game. Diallo had a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 11 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. The New Orleans Pelicans have 30-37 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Diallo averages: 5.4ppg, 4.6rpg, 2FGP: 64.4%(112-174) and FT: 71.4% in 49 games he played so far. He played for the Mali U16 national team eight years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Cheick Soumaoro (204-90, currently plays in France). Soumaoro contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Sorgues BC (11-14) crushing them 81-57 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball (24-1) is placed first in Group A. It was his team's 13th consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Soumaoro's overall stats this season are: 7.0ppg, 4.4rpg, 2FGP: 58.9%(56-95), 3FGP: 23.1% and FT: 81.5%. He is in the roster of the Mali senior national team.

   #3. The Mali player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Nianta Diarra (203-93, currently plays in France). He managed to help Boulazac Basket Dordogne to win against the sixth-ranked Chalon/Saor (13-9) 80-75 in the French Jeep ELITE ProA in Tuesday night's game. Diarra scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Boulazac Basket Dordogne (11-10) is placed tenth in the Jeep ELITE ProA. Diarra's overall stats this season are: 3.8ppg, 3.3rpg, 2FGP: 60.5%(26-43), 3FGP: 26.3% and FT: 52.0%. He has a dual citizenship: Mali and French. Diarra is also a member of the Mali senior national team.

An experienced guard Ludovic Chelle (188-83, currently plays in France) contributed to an easy victory against the fourth-ranked SO Maritime Boulogne (16-9) 87-71 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. He recorded 10 points in 16 minutes. Saint Vallier Basket Drome (16-8) is placed third in Group A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. This year Chelle's overall stats are: 8.7ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.5apg and 1.1spg in 21 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French. Despite Chelle played previously for the French U20 national team, he is currently in the Mali national team roster.

   #5. International center Drissa Ballo (208-95, currently plays in France). Ballo could not help ALM Evreux (8-12) to beat Lille Metropole (9-11). He recorded only 4 points. ALM Evreux was defeated 94-83 on the road by the higher-ranked Lille Metropole (#10). Ballo's total stats this season are: 4.8ppg and 3.2rpg. He plays currently for the Mali national team.

Shooting guard Mahamadou Drame (188-86, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a Feurs EF's victory against the tenth-ranked Kaysersberg (9-15) 82-76 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Drame recorded 18 points and had 3 steals in 22 minutes. Feurs Enfants du Forez (12-14) is placed sixth in Group A. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. This year Drame's total stats are: 8.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.5apg and 1.2spg in 11 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Mali National Team roster.

They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. Sidibe has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.0ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.2apg and 1.3spg. Despite Sidibe played previously for the French U20 national team, he is currently in the Mali national team roster.

   #8. Point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87, currently plays in France) was not able to help Lorient (12-12) in their last game. Despite Saounera's very good performance the ninth-placed Lorient (12-12) was edged 83-81 at home by the higher-ranked (#3) JSA Bordeaux in the Group B. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Saounera also added 4 rebounds and 6 assists in 35 minutes. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. Saounera has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 4.0apg in 24 games. He plays currently for the Mali national team.

International center Boubacar Sidibe (205-94, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Estela (14-10) 81-65 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. Sidibe scored only one point. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group East. HLA Alicante (20-4) is placed first. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. Sidibe has averaged so far 2.5ppg and 2.6rpg. He is also in the roster of the Mali national team.

   #10. Swingman Samba Balayera (195-96, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ibrahima Sidibe and both played together in the last French NM1 game. Balayera contributed to a GET Vosges' victory against the 13th-ranked Recy Saint-Martin (7-18) 98-87. He recorded 9 points. Balayera has averaged so far 7.4ppg and 1.1rpg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Mali National Team roster.

   #11. Former international forward Namory Boundy (202-89, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ibrahima Sidibe. He played also in the last French NM1 game facing Samba Balayera (above) in the other team. Boundy helped GET Vosges win their game against the 13th-ranked Recy Saint-Martin 98-87. He recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 13 minutes. Boundy has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg in 25 games. He used to play for the Mali national team four years ago.

   #12. Former international power forward Baba Samake (200-94, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ibrahim Saounera and both played together in the last French NM1 game. Samake was not able to secure a victory for Lorient in their game against JSA Bordeaux. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Samake recorded only 2 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. His team was edged 83-81. Samake has averaged so far 4.4ppg and 4.9rpg. He used to play for the Mali national team back in 2017.


The list of other players, who all have Mali passport but never been selected to any of Mali national teams:

   #1. Amadou Sow (206-F-98, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the UCSB (3-0) in their last game. Despite Sow's good performance his team lost 64-69 on the road to the Long Beach State University. He had a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 15 rebounds. Sow also added 3 blocks in 34 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Sow has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg and 6.6rpg in 27 games he played so far.

   #2. Bandja Sy (204-F-90, agency: BeoBasket, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in ABA League) was not able to help Partizan in their game against Crvena Zvezda (19-1) in the ABA League. He did not have that impressive stats last Sunday. Sy scored only 2 points in 17 minutes. Partizan was edged 70-68 in a derby game by the leading Crvena Zvezda. It was Partizan's first loss after eight consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the ABA League Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Sy's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 7.1ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.2apg in 19 games. Sy has a dual citizenship: Mali and French.

   #3. Mambi Diawara (193-G-94, college: Lamar St.CC, currently plays in Canada) led University of Calgary to an easy victory against the Thunderbirds (14-6) 90-75 in the U Sports on Saturday night. He recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds. Diawara also added 4 assists and 4 steals. The University of Calgary has a very solid 20-0 record this season. So far his team won all twenty games in the Play-Offs. Diawara has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 19.0ppg, 6.7rpg, 4.0apg and 2.2spg. Diawara is another player who holds two passports: Mali and Canadian.

   #4. Salif Boudie (203-F-95, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the Arkansas St. (2-4) in their last game. Despite his good performance his team lost 70-81 at home to the Georgia Southern University. Boudie scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a mere 17 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Boudie's overall stats are: 4.6ppg and 4.5rpg in 26 games.

   #5. Nouhoum Bocoum (207-F/C-92, college: Arkansas St., currently plays in Spain) led Aridane to a victory over the 13th-ranked Zentro Basket (8-15) 112-94 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. He was MVP of the game. Bocoum scored 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds; not bad, considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. C.B. Aridane (8-14) is placed 12th in Group B. This season Bocoum has very high stats. He averages: 17.8ppg, 9.5rpg and 1.5apg. Bocoum has both American and Mali nationalities.

   #6. Tahirou Diabate (206-F-98, is currently at the American university) couldn't help the Portland in their game against the Santa Clara University in the NCAA. Diabate cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points in 3 minutes on the court. His team was badly defeated by 16 points 78-62. Diabate has averaged so far 5.7ppg and 3.3rpg in 31 games.

Cote d'Ivoire - Mali 69:49 Cote d'Ivoire qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 2010. They beat Mali in Treichville to secure the qualification. Souleyman Diabate (181-PG-87) posted 16 points to lead the winners. Cote d'Ivoire grabbed a 26:15 lead after the opening frame. They boosted the margin in the second period.
