   #1. This week's number one is former U16 international power forward Cheick Diallo (206-96, college: Kansas, currently plays in NBA). He contributed to a New Orleans Pelicans' victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder (37-20) 131-122 in the NBA in Thursday night's game. Diallo scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 18 minutes on the court. The New Orleans Pelicans have 26-33 record this season. This year Diallo averages: 4.5ppg, 3.9rpg, 2FGP: 61.1%(77-126) and FT: 69.0% in 41 games he played so far. He played for the Mali U16 national team eight years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced former international guard Ludovic Chelle (188-83, currently plays in France). Chelle led Saint Vallier to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Kaysersberg (9-14) crushing them 93-72 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. He scored 13 points. Saint Vallier Basket Drome (15-8) is placed fourth in Group A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Chelle's first season with the team. Chelle's overall stats this year are: 8.7ppg, 2.1rpg, 1.6apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 45.7%, 3FGP: 37.3% and FT: 72.7%. He has a dual citizenship: Mali and French. Despite Chelle played previously for the French U20 national team, he played also for the Mali national team in 2011.

   #3. The Mali player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center Boubacar Sidibe (205-94, currently plays in Spain). He helped HLA Alicante win their game against the fifth-ranked Almansa (13-9) 99-89 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. Sidibe recorded 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 18 minutes. HLA Alicante (18-4) is placed first in East group. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. This year Sidibe's overall stats are: 2.8ppg, 2.9rpg, 2FGP: 61.9%(13-21) and FT: 72.7% in 12 games. He played for the Mali national team two years ago.

Forward Cheick Soumaoro (204-90, currently plays in France) managed to help Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball in a victory against the ninth-ranked Besancon (10-14) 94-82 in the French NM1 (third division) in Saturday night's game. He scored only 2 points in 10 minutes. Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball (23-1) is placed first in Group A. It was his team's 12th consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Soumaoro's total stats are: 6.9ppg and 4.1rpg in 24 games. He is also Mali national team player.

International swingman Samba Balayera (195-96, currently plays in France) led GET Vosges to a 3-point victory over the 14th-ranked Aubenas (4-20) 71-68 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Balayera was MVP of the game. He scored 19 points and had 3 steals. Golbey Epinal Thaon Vosges (8-16) is placed 11th in Group A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Balayera has averaged so far 7.3ppg and 1.1rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French. Balayera plays currently for the Mali national team.

   #6. Point guard Ibrahima Sidibe (180-95, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Samba Balayera and both played together in the last French NM1 game. Sidibe helped GET Vosges win their game against the 14th-ranked Aubenas (4-20) 71-68. He scored 8 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes. Sidibe has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.9ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.1apg and 1.4spg in nine games. Despite Sidibe played previously for the French U20 national team, he is also an international player who is currently on the senior Mali National Team roster.

   #7. Former international forward Namory Boundy (202-89, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Samba Balayera. He played also in the last French NM1 game facing Ibrahima Sidibe (above) in the other team. Boundy helped GET Vosges win their game against the 14th-ranked Aubenas (4-20) 71-68. He scored only 4 points and blocked 2 shots. Boundy has averaged so far 8.5ppg, 2.9rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg. He used to play for the Mali national team four years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Mali passport but never been selected to any of Mali national teams:

   #1. Amadou Sow (206-F-98, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the UCSB (3-0) in their last game. Despite Sow's good performance his team lost 57-71 at home to the University of California - Riverside. He recorded 14 points in 25 minutes. Sow has relatively good stats this year: 11.2ppg and 6.3rpg in 24 games he played so far.

   #2. Nouhoum Bocoum (207-F/C-92, college: Arkansas St., currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Aridane (7-13) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the 13th-placed Aridane (7-13) was defeated 100-85 on their home court in Los Llanos by the second-ranked Real Madrid II in the Group B. Bocoum was the top scorer with 25 points. He also added 5 rebounds. Bocoum has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.2ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.6apg. Bocoum has a dual citizenship: Mali and American.

   #3. Tahirou Diabate (206-F-98, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the Portland (0-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Diabate's good performance his team was defeated 68-63 on the road by the University of San Francisco. He scored 10 points. There are only four games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Diabate's total stats this season are: 6.0ppg and 3.4rpg.

   #4. Salif Boudie (203-F-95, is currently at the American university) couldn't help the Arkansas St. (2-4) in their game against the Texas State University at San Marcos (4-2) in the NCAA. He recorded only 4 points in 10 minutes. his team lost 74-84 in San Marcos to the Texas State University at. Boudie has averaged so far 4.7ppg and 4.7rpg in 23 games.

   #5. Bakary Konate (211-C-93, college: Minnesota, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Caceres Basket (4-13) in their game against Magia Huesca (14-8) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Konate recorded only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was his first game for Caceres Basket this season. Caceres Basket was defeated 75-68 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Magia_Huesca (#3).

We bring you last week's top performances from Malians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is former U16 international power forward Cheick Diallo (206-96). He could not help the New Orleans Pelicans (30-40) in their last game. Despite Diallo's very good performance the New Orleans Pelicans (30-40) were crushed 127-104 on the road by the Toronto Raptors.    [read more]

Cote d'Ivoire - Mali 69:49 Cote d'Ivoire qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 2010. They beat Mali in Treichville to secure the qualification. Souleyman Diabate (181-PG-87) posted 16 points to lead the winners. Cote d'Ivoire grabbed a 26:15 lead after the opening frame. They boosted the margin in the second period.
