Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mali players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former U16 international power forward Cheick Diallo (206-96, college: Kansas, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the New Orleans Pelicans (4-4) to beat the Denver Nuggets (7-1). Diallo scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 14 minutes on the court. The New Orleans Pelicans (4-4) lost 111-116 on the road to the Nuggets. It was Pelicans' fourth consecutive loss in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Diallo averages: 5.4ppg, 4.2rpg, 2FGP: 52.6% in five games he played so far. He played for the Mali U16 national team seven years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Cheick Soumaoro (204-90, currently plays in France). Soumaoro managed to help Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball to win against the eighth-ranked Charleville-Mezieres (3-5) 74-59 in the French NM1 (third division) in Tuesday night's game. He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Saint-Quentin Basket-Ball (8-0) is placed first in Group A. So far his team won all eight games in the Regular Season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Soumaoro's overall stats this season are: 4.1ppg, 4.5rpg, 2FGP: 38.5% and FT: 77.8%. He is in the roster of the Mali senior national team.

   #3. The Mali player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international guard Ludovic Chelle (188-83, currently plays in France). Chelle led Saint Vallier to a victory against the seventh-ranked ALS Basket (4-4) 85-72 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. He recorded 13 points and had 3 steals in 27 minutes. Saint Vallier Basket Drome (6-2) is placed third in Group A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. This year Chelle's overall stats are: 7.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.1apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 34.8%, 3FGP: 35.9% in eight games. He has a dual citizenship: Mali and French. Despite Chelle played previously for the French U20 national team, he played also for the Mali national team in 2011.

   #4. Power forward Nianta Diarra (203-93, currently plays in France) was not able to help Boulazac Basket in their game against Provence Basket (1-6) in the French ProA. Diarra did not beat the league record on Friday evening. He recorded only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Boulazac Basket was defeated 88-76 in Fos-sur-Mer by the one of league's weakest teams Provence Basket (#17). Diarra's total stats this season are: 3.9ppg and 2.4rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French. Diarra is also Mali national team player.

   #5. International center Boubacar Sidibe (205-94, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Albacete (2-3) crushing them 71-36 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Friday night's game. He scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 22 minutes. HLA Alicante (3-2) is placed sixth in East group. This year Sidibe's total stats are: 2.4ppg and 3.4rpg in five games. He used to play for the Mali national team last year.

Point guard Ibrahima Sidibe (180-95, currently plays in France) led GET Vosges to a surprising victory over the fifth-ranked Orchesien BC (5-3) 90-71 in the French NM1 (third division) last Friday. Sidibe was MVP of the game. He recorded 23 points and added 5 assists. Golbey Epinal Thaon Vosges (1-7) is placed 13th in Group A. Sidibe has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 21.0ppg, 3.0apg and 1.3spg. Despite Sidibe played previously for the French U20 national team, he is also an international player who is currently on the senior Mali National Team roster.

   #7. International point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87, currently plays in France) contributed to Lorient's victory against the eighth-ranked Union Tours (4-4) 109-105 in the French NM1 (third division) on Saturday night. Saounera recorded 21 points, 7 assists and 3 steals in 32 minutes. CEP Lorient (6-2) is placed third in Group B. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Saounera has relatively good stats this year: 12.0ppg, 2.1rpg, 5.5apg and 1.8spg in eight games. He is also Mali national team player.

   #8. Swingman Sourata Cisse (196-86, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Brissac Anjou (2-6) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Cisse's very good performance the 13th-placed Brissac Anjou (2-6) was defeated 86-71 at home by the much higher-ranked Vitre (#4) in the Group B. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Cisse also added 3 passes. This season Cisse has very high stats. He averages: 16.6ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.5apg and 1.1spg. Despite Cisse played previously for the French U20 national team, he is currently in the Mali national team roster.

   #9. Former international forward Namory Boundy (202-89, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ibrahima Sidibe and both played together in the last French NM1 game. Boundy contributed to an GET Vosges' shocking victory against the fifth-ranked Orchesien BC (5-3) 90-71. He recorded 12 points and had 3 steals. This season Boundy has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.1apg and 1.8spg. He used to play for the Mali national team three years ago.

   #10. Shooting guard Mahamadou Drame (188-86, currently plays in France) couldn't help Feurs EF (3-5) in their last game. Despite Drame's good performance Feurs EF (#11) lost 66-76 on the opponent's court to the leading Saint-Quentin in the Group A. He recorded 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 24 minutes. It was Feurs EF's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Drame has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.3apg in seven games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Mali National Team roster.

   #11. International swingman Mamadou Sy (196-85, college: Cloud County CC, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sourata Cisse. But that was another game of his team in French NM1 which we would like to mention. Sy couldn't help Brissac Anjou in their game against La Charite. He recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. His team was defeated 81-76. Sy has averaged so far 3.4ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.8apg. He plays currently for the Mali national team.

   #12. International power forward Baba Samake (200-94, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ibrahim Saounera. However that was another game of his team in French NM1 which brought him to that list. Samake contributed to Lorient's victory against the tenth-ranked Rueil 84-71. He scored 5 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 21 minutes. Samake has averaged so far 5.3ppg and 5.5rpg in eight games. He used to play for the Mali national team last year.


The list of other players, who all have Mali passport but never been selected to any of Mali national teams:

   #1. Mambi Diawara (193-G-94, college: Lamar St.CC, currently plays in Canada) led University of Calgary to a victory over the Cougars (0-2) crushing them 91-68 in the U Sports last Friday. Diawara was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 30 points and getting 13 rebounds. Diawara also added 4 assists. The University of Calgary has 3-0 record this season. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Diawara has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 22.3ppg, 8.7rpg, 3.7apg and 1.7spg. Diawara has a dual citizenship: Mali and Canadian.

   #2. Bandja Sy (204-F-90, agency: BeoBasket, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in ABA League). He could not help Partizan (2-3) to beat KK Zadar (1-4). Sy scored 5 points and added 3 assists in 22 minutes. Partizan lost 85-95 on the road to the league outsider (#12) KK_Zadar. It was Partizan's third consecutive loss in a row. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Sy's overall stats are: 3.5ppg and 2.0rpg in four games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French.

   #3. Nouhoum Bocoum (207-F/C-92, college: Arkansas St., currently plays in Spain) contributed to Aridane's surprising victory against the fourth-ranked CB Guadalajara (4-1) 75-67 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Bocoum scored 10 points, had 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 27 minutes. C.B. Aridane (2-4) is placed tenth in Group B. It's Bocoum's first season with the team. This year he has relatively solid stats: 14.5ppg, 8.7rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2bpg in six games. Bocoum has both American and Mali nationalities.
