Falcons, a Blantyre-based basketball outfit on Saturday walloped Mimbulu (wild dogs) from the capital Lilongwe 70-52 in a friendly game.
The game was part of Falcons’ preparations before they leave for Mozambique to play that country’s top sides.
Mimbulu, who last year hammered Falcons a severe blow by winning the K1 million Sprite competition held at the African Bible College, gave their followers false hopes at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) in the first half by producing marvellous moves that paid.
Mimbulu deserved the win in the first half when they narrowly beat their rival 26-24.
The team featured notable names in the likes of Daudi Suleman, Thoko Majoni, Dan Nkhoma and former Falcons player Madano Thepeteya who caused panic whenever they exchanged the ball.
But the second half saw the visitors being crashed with no mercy. Falcons breathed fire, denying the wild dogs any chance of taking full control of the game.
Mimbulu who looked frustrated gave away many fouls and Falcons capitalised on that to take the game to their side.
Falcons led by Hope Chisamanga, Simeon Gama, Zitto Phillips and Powers Dube were the real threat in the Mimbulu’s area. Mimbulu were always in the chase of the home team’s shadows with Chisamanga and Dube hitting excellent three pointers. The final score was 70-52 in favour of the Blantyre-based side.
Dube, who was one of the organisers of the match, praised Mimbulu for honouring the tie.
“They gave us a good run but we have managed to win. I hope when we go to Mozambique we will play as we did today. We played as a team,” said Dube.
