The Southern Zone Basketball League will bounce back into action with a fantastic bonanza on Saturday at the Blantyre Youth Centre.
Sozobal chairman Ben Mlasaanthu said the bonanza is aimed at raising funds to run the league.
“We also have the intention of travelling to Tete in Mozambique to allow our basketball players to experience international basketball competitions,” said Mlasaanthu.
He said Sozobal is planning to revamp basketball courts in schools where the sport has died a natural death.
“These schools are the grassroots of basketball because that is where players learn how to play the game. I would like to appeal for support from sponsors who shun the game,” he said.
The bonanza will be played on a league format with each team playing one game. Fireworks are expected in the games involving Bricks and Poly Bobcats, Spitfire and Chanco Hawks.
Falcons will take on Firestorms, Crazy Warriors will clash with Pandama while MCA Cardinals will line up against Poly Panthers.
The bonanza which starts at 10AM will be spiced up with a disco by Road House Crew and there will be a braai to be washed down with cold drinks. Dancing and a rap competition are also items on the bonanza menu which has an entrance fee of K80. (The Malawi Nation)
