Senegal continues to impress the home crowd at the African championship in Dakar. They recorded their 4th consecutive victory and confidently occupy the top spot in Group A. Madagascar remained winless at the bottom of the ladder but can bring up sensation if beats Cote d'Ivoire in the last preliminary round later today.
Madagaskar started the game with 4 straight points and stunned the home side for a little bit. However Aya Traore (186-F-83, agency: LBM Management, college: Purdue) quickly found the touch from the field and nailed 8 consecutive points including two long bombs to claim the lead for the hosts. Senegal later completed their 18:0 rally and set up a comfortable 18:4 lead. They extended it to 29:6 by the end of the first quarter and entertained the fans further on. Astou Traore (182-F/C-81) chipped in 17 points in the second quarter to give Senegal a 58:13 advantage at halftime. The questions about the outcome vanished and the teams allowed each other to exchange some blows in the second half. It never influnced Senegalese dominance on the court and they easily sealed the victory at the end.
Astou Traore and Aya Traore netted 21 poitns apiece for the home side. Awa Doumbia (182-F-79) added 13 points for the winners. Lydia Raoanirina answered with 10 points for Madagscar. Ange Rasoambolanoro had 7 points and 3 rebounds in defeat.
Senegal faces Mali later tonight. Madagscar will try to upset Cote d'Ivoire in their last preliminary battle.
