Makur Maker (212-C/F-2000, college: Howard) and Ivan Almeida (197-SF-1989, college: Stonehill) each scored 21 points as Al Ahly Tripoli defeated Brazil’s Flamengo 95–85 on Sunday to claim third place at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The duo also combined for 18 rebounds to pace the Libyan side’s strong finish in Singapore.
Al Ahly set the tone early, grabbing a four-point lead after the opening quarter. Flamengo responded with tough defense in the second period, limiting the North African club to just 13 points and carrying a 44–39 edge into halftime.
The momentum shifted after the break. Al Ahly erupted for 56 points across the final two quarters, breaking down Flamengo’s resistance and pulling away for a convincing win in the closing minutes.
Guilherme Deodato (192-G-1991) and Markeith Cummings (198-SF-1988, college: KSU) scored 14 points apiece for Flamengo, who finished fourth. Al Ahly, meanwhile, secured their place on the podium in their debut campaign, highlighting their rise as a force in regional basketball.
