Defending champion Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Puerto Rican-Cuban international center Ismael Romero (205cm-100kg-1991). Romero played this summer at Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rican BSN league. He managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. In 31 BSN games just recently he had very impressive stats: 18.6ppg and 2.4apg. 2025-25 was a great season as he was voted Latinbasket.com All-Puerto Rican League Domestic Player of the Year, named to All-Domestic Players Team and League Player of the Week (2 times). The last season he played at Sonicboom in South Korean KBL where in 22 games he recorded 8.2ppg and 4.7rpg. Romero also played 2 games in East Asia Super League where he averaged 15.0ppg, 12.5rpg, 5.0apg and 2.0spg.
In 2015 he was drafted by Grand Rapids Drive (D-League) in fourth round (63rd overall).
He also represented Puerto Rico at the FIBA Olympic Games in Paris (France) last year. His stats at that event were 3 games: 7.3ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.3apg, FGP: 44.0%, FT: 0.0%.
Romero is quite experienced player. Romero's career allowed him to visit four different continents, while he played in nine different countries. He tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America. Romero has played previously professionally in Argentina (Quimsa), Israel (Hapoel Haifa), Mexico (Libertadores, Panteras and Capitanes), Spain (Real Betis), Cuba (Lobos and Villa Clara), Dominican Republic (Indios), NBA G League (Grand Rapids Gold) and Nicaragua (Real Esteli). He won Puerto Rican League championship title in 2020 and 2022.
