Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) tabbed experienced 36-year old American (has also Ivorian passport) 204cm power forward Deon Thompson (college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports). Thompson moved there from Rain or Shine in Filipino PBA league. In 19 games he was league's fifth best scorer with impressive 24.8ppg and recorded 13.4rpg (#4 in the league), 3.5apg, 1.2spg and 1.5bpg last season.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014.
Thompson represented Ivory Coast at the FIBA Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament in San Juan (Puerto Rico) last year. His stats at that event were 2 games: 13.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.5apg.
He is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in thirteen different countries playing on four different continents. Thompson is familiar with European, Asian, Latin American and of course North American leagues. He has played previously professionally in China (Flying Leopards), Germany (Bayern Muenchen), Greece (AE Kallitheas), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem), Japan (Brave Warriors), Lithuania (Zalgiris), Mexico (Libertadores), Serbia (Crvena zvezda), Slovenia (Petrol Olimpija Ljubljana), Spain (Unicaja, Longevida San Pablo Burgos and Zaragoza), Turkey (Tofas and Galatasaray), South Korea (Egis) and Puerto Rico (Leones and Indios). His team won ACC Tournament in 2007 and 2008. Thompson was voted to Eurobasket.com German Bundesliga All-Imports Team back in 2013 and 2014.
It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Al Ahly Tripoli.
He graduated from University of North Carolina in 2010 and it is his 15th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
