Defending champion Al Alhy Benghazi (D1) landed experienced 34-year old Libyan-American international 198cm swingman Tony Mitchell (college: Alabama) for new season. Mitchell is the second foreign player in the roster as Ivorian Souleyman Diabate signed here earlier.
He started the season at Beirut Club in Lebanese LBL league. In 7 games he averaged 10.9ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.4apg and 1.3spg.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015. He has been regularly called to Libyan Senior National Team since 2023.
Mitchell is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in sixteen different countries playing on six different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian, Latin American, Australian, African and of course North American leagues. Mitchell has played previously professionally in Argentina (Penarol), Australia (Cairns Taipans), Bahrain (Al-Muharraq and Bahrain Club), China (Hebei and Chongqing), Israel (Hapoel Eilat), Italy (Cantu, Pistoia and Sassari), Morocco (AS Sale), Philippines, Puerto Rico (Cariduros and Indios), Russia, Spain, Taiwan (TB Herobears), Uruguay (Aguada), Venezuela (Trotamundos), NBA (Miami Heat) and Dominican Republic (Soles).
Among many awards his team made it to the Dominican Republic LNB Semifinals in 2022. He was voted to Latinbasket.com Puerto Rican BSN All-Imports Team back in 2017.
He graduated from University of Alabama in 2012 and it is his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball.
