Defending champion Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) inked experienced 35-year old American (has also Dominican passport) 190cm forward Edgar Sosa (college: Louisville) for upcoming season. Sosa played most recently at Al Naft in Iraqi Superleague. In 9 West Asia Super League games he averaged impressive 32.2ppg, 2.2rpg, 5.8apg and 1.1spg last season.
He won Iraqi League championship title in 2023. Sosa voted toAsia-Basket.com All-Iraqi League Player of the Year in 2023.
The previous (2021-22) season he played at Zamalek in Egyptian league where in 7 Basketball Africa League games he was the best scorer with remarkable 18.1ppg and recorded 2.6rpg and 3.1apg in that year. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
Sosa has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2012.
He is a very experienced player. Sosa has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to eleven different countries on six different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, Africa and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Australia (New Zealand Breakers), France (Gravelines Dunkerque and Boulazac Basket), Germany (ratiopharm Ulm and Rasta Vechta), Iran (Petrochimi), Israel (Gilboa Galil and Hapoel Jerusalem), Italy (BLE Juvecaserta Accademy, Venezia and Sassari), Lebanon (Al Riyadi), Puerto Rico (Cangrejeros), Spain (Valladolid), NBA (Atlanta Hawks) and Dominican Republic (Leones and Reales).
Sosa graduated from University of Louisville in 2010 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball. He won Iraqi League championship title in 2023. Sosa selected toAsia-Basket.com All-Iraqi League Player of the Year in 2023.
