JOHN MERCHANT

Al Alhy Benghazi (D1) added to their roster 29-year old American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling). He played last season at Al Ahli in Qatari D1 league. Merchant also played for Forssan Koripojat (1st Division) in league where in 12 games he had very impressive stats: 22.0ppg, 9.3rpg, 3.7apg and 3.1spg.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team made it to the ECC Tournament Semifinals in 2009 and 2012. Merchant was also voted All-ECC 2nd Team back in 2012 at his college time.
Merchant has played also professionally in Italy (Piacenza Basket Club and FCL Contract Legnano).
He attended Dowling College until 2012 and it will be his seventh season as a professional player.
On Merchant: John Merchant uses an incredibly quick first step to blow by defenders where he is a strong finisher and an even better decision maker. John's 3.2 second lateral lane shuffle and 6 second multi directional movement were both number 1 overall, and he also placed 5th in vertical jump. His strength and speed allow him to create havoc on defense and finish in transition. His tremendous ability to create is own shot, causes havoc for teams to defend.
