Lokomotiv Kuban (VTB) strengthened their roster with addition of 28-year old American (has also Liberian passport) point guard Joe Ragland (182-80kg-89, college: Wichita State). He has played for the last two years at Scandone Avellino in Italian Serie A. In 35 games he was fifth best scorer with impressive 17.7ppg and had 3.3rpg, 5.1apg and 1.4spg last season. Ragland helped them to make it to the Supercup final and to the league semifinals. Great season indeed as he was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA Guard of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to All-Imports Team. Ragland also played 15 games in Basketball Champions League where he recorded 14.6ppg, 3.7rpg and 5.2apg.
The previous (15-16) season Ragland played at Pinar Karsiyaka in Turkish BSL. In 6 games he averaged 13.8ppg, 3.8rpg, 7.7apg and 1.3spg. He also played 7 games in Euroleague where he got 11.9ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.1apg.
Ragland has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2012.
His team won MVC Regular Season in 2012.
Ragland has played previously professionally also in Spain (UCAM Murcia).
He attended Wichita State until 2012 and it will be his sixth season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A super quick and energic combo guard player. He's a very good outside shooter and scorer, his powerful body enables him to be very effective at the defensive side too. Great upside, even at Euroleage level.
