KPA Sunday evening overcame determined Strathmore Blades 64-59 in their Game Two of the KNBL semifinal playoffs, in an electrifying clash at the Nyayo Stadium’s basketball court. Strathmore Blades surged ahead in the first quarter, displaying impeccable teamwork and sharp shooting, carving out a narrow lead of 19-18 by the end of the opening period. However, KPA swiftly turned the tide in the second quarter. Known for their aggressive defense and fast breaks, they caught the Blades off guard. With sharp three-point shooting and relentless drives to the basket, KPA outscored Strathmore 24-11 in the second quarter alone, heading into halftime with a commanding 42-30 lead. The Blades, stunned by the sudden turnaround, retreated to the locker room to regroup, while KPA fans erupted in celebration. As the teams emerged for the second half, the Strathmore Blades knew they had to rally. Adjusting their defensive strategies and intensifying their offensive attacks, they matched KPA point for point in a hard-fought third quarter. The score remained deadlocked at 15-15, maintaining KPA's 12-point advantage going into the final period. The fourth quarter unfolded with nail-biting tension as the Blades fought valiantly to bridge the gap. The Blades' defense tightened, denying KPA easy scoring opportunities and forcing critical turnovers. Despite their valiant efforts, the Blades fell just short of overturning KPA's early lead. As the final buzzer sounded, both teams exchanged handshakes amidst thunderous applause from the crowd, with KPA celebrating their hard-earned victory.
It was no different in another Strathmore and Kenya Ports Authority affair in the Women’s league, as the Strathmore Swords and KPA fighting tooth and nail for a spot in the finals of the KBL. However, it is the Dockers who had the last laugh, winning 61-54. The first quarter kicked off with intense energy, each team testing the other's defenses. KPA managed to edge ahead with a narrow lead, ending the quarter 17-15. The Swords pushed harder in the second quarter, but KPA's offense came alive, widening the gap to 24-13 by halftime. The scoreboard read 41-28 in favor of KPA, leaving the Swords with a challenging halftime discussion to strategize their comeback. As the third quarter commenced, the Swords found their rhythm. With precise passes and strategic plays, they outscored KPA 18-11, closing the gap to 49-46. In the fourth quarter, both teams locked horns in a defensive battle. Points were hard-earned, each possession crucial. The Swords fought valiantly, but KPA's experience was evident as they managed to maintain a slight edge. The final quarter ended 09-08 in favor of KPA, sealing their victory with a final score of 61-54.
In another thrilling showdown of another Game Two of the KBL semifinal playoffs, Equity Hawks sunk Zetech Sparks 69-59. The first quarter saw a neck-and-neck battle, with the score tied at 15-15 as neither team could gain a significant edge. The Hawks managed to squeeze out a slight advantage in the second quarter, outscoring the Sparks 18-14. This put them ahead at halftime with a narrow lead of 33-29. During halftime, tensions were palpable as both teams regrouped and strategized for the crucial second half. But it was the Hawks who dominated the third quarter with a score of 22-14, extending their lead significantly to 55-43 going into the final period. The fourth quarter was a gritty battle as the Sparks fought desperately to close the gap. An Medina Okot (2004) showcased her scoring prowess, sinking crucial baskets and rallying her teammates. The Hawks, led by their captain Melissa Otieno (176-F-1992) remained resilient and composed to soak the pressure. Despite a late surge from the Sparks, who outscored the Hawks 16-14 in the final quarter, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. As the final buzzer sounded, the Equity Hawks emerged victorious with a hard-earned 69-59 win over the Zetech Sparks.
