Storms Coach Nson Sings Praises For Charges Despite Falling Short In Title Race- June 21, 2024Storms head coach Abel Nson says he is proud of his girls despite failing to qualify for the Kenya National Basketball Women’s Premier League semi-final playoffs. Storms lost 2-0 to varsity side Zetech Sparks in the quarter-final playoffs in the three game series losing Game One 26-77 before falling 37-58 in Game Two last weekend. The Storms finished sixth in the regular season with 32 points, 12 points behind league leaders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) who topped the league with 44 points after going unbeaten. “I am satisfied with how my girls played in the second game of the quarter finals against Zetech, they showed a lot of improvement. Our season has been tough, we have been adding players as we go, we have over 10 new players, new starters etc. so it was an adaptation time for us. We feel good about where we are, how we ended the season and looking forward to the next season,” Nson said. At the same time Nson applauded his girls for a great show in Game Two of the quarter-final playoffs despite losing it. “For us the end of the season was fine, the girls bounced back after a terrible game one in the quarters, game two was better despite losing. We struggled on offense but we shall polish on that in our pre-season because we plan to have a pre-season as we wait for the dates of the next season and move forward from there,” Nson added. Meanwhile Nson has plans for next season as he hopes to beef up the squad. “Hoping we don’t lose anybody, we might make some key additions like in the paint because we need help because we only have two big-men and therefore we just to reinforce that area and also point-guards, we need to get some who are more experienced. Beyond that I am pretty satisfied with the progress my players have made. Looking forward to the start of the next season and hopefully it won’t start next year and we shall definitely show a different face in the next season,” Nson added. Defending champions KPA will be facing the winner between Strathmore Swords and USIU Flames in the semis while Zetech Sparks will face Equity Hawks in another semi-final playoff which will be played in best of five series starting this Friday.
