Bankers corner soldiers in entertaining league match- August 30, 2022
Faisal Aden (193-G-1989, college: WSU) posted 28 points as Equity Bank Dumas beat Ulinzi Warriors 69-59 in a Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium on Sunday. The bankers trailed 11-6 in the first quarter but took the second quarter with a strong 24-15 display. After the break, the soldiers, who were down 30-26, managed to regain the advantage with a close 20-19 cushion. However, they could not keep up with Dumas onslaught in the deciding quarter as bankers charged away 20-13 to carry the day. Red hot Aden registered five of the ten three point attempts while Cliff Alela made 12 and Victor Ochieng (182-PG-1985) 11. Equity Bank had a big lead of 13 points in this epic duel that tied six times with only one lead change. "We had lots of turnovers and defensive lapses that gifted Equity," said Ulinzi coach Ben Mufutu. Stephen Simiyu and Erick Mutoro (180-PG-1992) had 12 and 11 points respectively for the soldiers. In the lower division, Cabals Elisists beat little Prince 56-40 and Snippers shot down Mustangs 63-50. Absa beat Neosasa 67-60 and also won 66-62 over Blazers. In the ladies cadre, Scarlets got the better of Coastal Queens 64-42. |
