Equity Bank men's basketball team have strengthened their squad ahead of the start of the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League by signing six new players. Head coach David Maina says the six have already gelled with the rest of the squad hence increasing competition in the squad as they prepare to face EMYBA on Saturday in their season opener. The six are Crispin Abuto from Lakeside, Joseph Ongoro from Strathmore, Fredrick Onono and Davis Siaji from USIU, and Faheem Juma (201-F-93) and Shem Otieno from Thunder, Equity will face EMYBA, aiming to avenge the quarter finals defeat they suffered in the 2019 season's playoffs. 'The new players have gelled up with the rest of the players increasing competition. It is even going to make us have a rough time choosing the first eleven,' Maina said. 'Everyone is looking forward for the start of the league. It will be a good game and will give us a measure to understand where we are and I believe the new players will make us have an upper hand over our opponents.' Equity finished third in the regular league in the 2019 season with 39 points before suffering defeat in the quarters playoffs against EMYBA. The league failed to tip off last year due to the pandemic.
