The Strathmore Blades had waited for this moment for long. And as the clock ticked down on a historic victory that launched the Blades into the Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League finals for the first time, their fans burst in celebration. It hasn't been easy but finally the final awaits the students. "After we lost Game 1, we sat down as a team and rectified the mistakes we made, from there on we knew Ulinzi was a beatable side" Joseph Ongoro said. Blades head into uncharted territory against the defending champions KPA after a thorough 73-53 dismantling of Ulinzi in Sunday's thrilling Game 4 at the Strathmore University Grounds. Ongoro had 15 points, Samuel Mogoko 13 while George Okoth chipped in with 11, they got plenty of help from Brian Onyango, Fidel Okoth, Cliff Alela, Rueben Muraya, Emmanuel Soja and Shilton Ochieng. Ulinzi came out blazing in the first quarter but after that Blades took control of the game to the last buzzer,. An ecstatic coach Tonny Ochieng said after the game. True to his words Ulinzi had nothing against the efficient Blades sides that out rebounded them on both sides of the court.
In the other game played at the same venue earlier Masaku Sparks beat Strathmore 44-41 in OT to advance to the Division 1 finals. Masaku led 20-18 at the halftime break but Strathmore came stronger in the third quarter with a 12-4 run. When it seemed Strathmore will tie the series Frida Gumba hit a jumper to tie the game at 36 and force OT. Frida had 12 points, Sylvia Koech 11 and Mitchelle Otinda 10 for Masaku Sparks.
