KPA power past Equity to bag league title - Feb 25, 2018


Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) are the 2017 Kenya women basketball league champions after humiliating defending Champions Equity Bank 3-0 in the series of best of five at their final game played at KPA Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa. This is after defeating Equity 74-49 in their game three after they had successfully won their game one and two 77-67 and 60-53 respectively. Speaking to Citizen Digital, KPA head coach Antony Ojukwu expressed his joy after waiting for long since they have been playing finals without a win for years. 'We are very happy for the win and I want to thank the players, management and all stakeholders for this win. He said.' Antony added that his duty now is to ensure they conquer the African title. KPA captain Brenda Angeshi was also delighted for the win. 'It was a good game, it wasn't easy for us winning three games in a row and to defeat the defending champions makes it special. ' For his part, Equity head coach David Maina said he will not be consumed by bad feeling since they tried their best, noting that the aim is to improve next season. 'We are hoping to retain these players and may add one or two and make some few changes for the next season. Maina said' KPA showed their thirst for winning the league after by claiming their first and second quarter 20-9 and 23-17 respectively before being shocked in the third quarter after an 18-6 defeat from the defending champs. They came strong in the fourth and final quarter to win 25-5 and got overall of 74-49 in today's game.
