Zenit welcomes back Poythress

Alexander Poythress

Defending champion Zenit Saint Petersburg (VTB United League) signed 30-year-old American (who also has an Ivorian passport) 203cm power forward Alexander Poythress (college: Kentucky) for the upcoming season. He joins fellow USA player Trent Frazier on the roster. Poythress is making a comeback to Saint Petersburg, where he previously played. He most recently played at AX Armani Exchange Milano in the Italian Serie A, competing in three different competitions. In 18 Serie A games last season, he averaged 7.3ppg and 3.3rpg. Poythress helped his team win the league title, despite finishing the regular season in second place. He also played 30 games in the Euroleague, averaging 5.3ppg and 2.7rpg. In the previous 2022-23 season, he played for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Israeli league.
Poythress has attempted to make it to the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. Poythress has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to six different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in China (Jilin Tigers), Israel, Turkey (Galatasaray), NBA (Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers and Indiana Pacers) and NBA G League (Indiana Mad Ants and College Park SkyHawks).
Poythress was voted to the VTB United League All-Star Game in 2022.
He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2016, and it will be his ninth season in pro basketball.
